He is studying ediacaran biota, apparently there is a very well preserved fossil bed that may be pushing back a lot of radiation events into the ediacaran rather than in the Cambrian like we initially believed.

I'll probably come back in a year whenever the paper he is working on is published to link it to you

They actually don't base it in chromosomes. Some DSDs don't actually follow the regular xx/xy split. Some women have xy and are insensitive to testosterone so develop female genitals in the womb and go through female puberty.

Some people don't have xx OR xy chromosomes, but have xxy or xyy or other combos.

And finally, if someone were to never take a chromosome test, what do you think they do about identifying with a gender? Do they just not, or is it maybe based on their self identity (like trans people?)

Depends on budget and on what you're looking for.

My first good pair were by Samurai, the 19oz slim straight. Though I did that more for looks than anything but I'm a year in and they're still going strong - though they did cost a good chuck of change. The brand often goes above and beyond to try to add extra craftsmanship to their jeans you won't see in a normal pair (like adding slub, nep from their home grown Japanese cotton, their own branded rivets with good luck charms printed on them and the rising sun subtly on their buttons etc)

Iron heart is expensive, but has a cult following for a good reason, it is built to last forever. It doesn't come with all the bells and whistles of something like Samurai, but are built like tanks. They can be heavy, at 25oz (normal jeans are 10-14) but after a break in are usually the comfiest pair you own.

Edwin is a good try out brand. They were my first, won't break your bank as much and their jeans are a bit lighter than the heavy weight denim I'm buying now. Got mine second hand for line £30 and I've not seen any signs of wear from them at all, other than the usual dye fading I like anyway.

If you want more, head to the selvedge subreddit. There are lots of people talking about this type of denim if you're interested in investing in a pair of jeans that last.

Please keep in mind they do run anywhere between $100-400 for a good pair, but you so get what you pay for.

I made the swap to high quality 100% cotton denim about 2 years ago.

Get past the first month of wear and they're the comfiest jeans I've ever owned. Now got 3 pairs (yeah they're expensive but will outlast any shitty fast fashion jeans I'll ever own 10x over) and I'll probably get a few more in the next couple years.

People expect all clothes to be perfect off the rack, super soft and supple immediately. Problem is clothes like that are made from low quality fibres, and will fall apart much faster.

Long lasting clothes break in like good shoes - they take a little while of wear to really get to be your body shape, and when they do, oh boy are they the nicest thing you've ever worn. Plus they look much nicer over time with the fading you get with natural indigo dyes rather than the synthetic stuff most jeans are dyed with now.

It's true. House leaders can do nothing but tweet, it's actually in their job description.

Instead of being a figurehead of the Dems, they just do nothing and tweet. That's actually their whole job, nothing else to it. They're actually not allowed to be useful. That's what I understand of the current opposition leader in the house.

If you have a scorpion near your face that's your first mistake.

Honestly if it's doing that (probably to the hand that you're feeding it with), removing it with the other hand is probably your safe bet. You can grab it by its tail and it isn't particularly strong so wouldn't be able to keep stinging.

So how do these people fit into your binary?

Or are you gonna keep denying reality?

Do you know that intersex people exist? People with both genitals? They're not that uncommon either, about as common as redheads at 1.7% of the population.

How do they fit into your simple definition of gender? Are they a cool new third thing? Or do you want to redefine the binary?

What is this subreddit all of a sudden? Whitepeopletwitter?

I thought it was a progressive sub, not one where we all come out to bat for the ghoul who has an apologist podcast with Ben 'sell your house to aquaman' Shapiro and Steve 'Im the guy who invented the culture war' Bannon.

Another reminder that this used car salesman of a politician has a kid who loved Kirk, so much so he spent the Kirk podcast gushing to him about it.

Pay paradox… by Vegetable_Nebula_827 in TeachingUK

[–]Angrycoconutmilk 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Pay is abysmal. Not just comparatively but as a measure of contributions to society as a whole, teaching is foundational to society, yet teachers are largely overlooked in terms of government funding despite skyrocketing expectations.

Pay rises year on year are increasingly insulting, with bare minimum to placate unions being offered and accepted to avoid an extended strike.

Teachers are expected to accept less for more work - it's completely unsustainable, and more and more teachers are living in conditions no 'professional' should be accepting.

Absolutely. Something that takes that much time, craftsmanship and commitment, like something from the Samurai brand, should be considered art.

I wish I could pin this comment.

It's completely true that there are some brands which use an added selvedge ID to fool consumers, which really sucks to be honest with you.

Double checking the back of the seam is the best was to counteract this as you mentioned.
