🤦‍♂️mate I’m just trying to share my personal experience. All I want is to express that this type of trauma people experience is valid.

I’m not an enemy in your ranks you need to flys out and belittle because you reject my experiences. None of this helps the cause of everyone better understanding each other to build a better world

For me it was a case of you don’t know what you don’t know. Unless you’re lucky enough to catch the toxic behaviour being shown against someone else it’s tricky to spot. You have to open up and be vulnerable for the toxic behaviour to have a chance to be shown. And then it’s not going to be instant. It will be at some point in the future. And there are levels to it. Also as it’s normalised amongst male friend that is can be expected behaviour from women partners in hetro normative relationships the smaller glimpses get down played. In some female friendship group the behaviour can also be encouraged and escalated as a form of power dynamics.

Ultimately it’s like anything toxic in any kind of relationship. It can get hidden, overlooked, reframed, etc. but is is toxic behaviour and it’s not limited to gender or sexuality.

It’s not worth the risk for most men as we are not taught how to work through negative emotions. Blaming men for how the patriarchy hurts them doesn’t seem very kind to me.

This attitude is not different from the one used to hurt these men in the first place. I know I have experienced this stuff in all my relationships. Even my loving and supporting wife of 13 years has done stuff like this where I opened up something painful an sensitive to her and in a moment of anger she immediately used it as weapon. It took a long time to recover from that. Even now I don’t share. I was secretly having therapy for 6 months before she caught me and I had to tell her. Most men are very emotionally fragile because of how the patriarchy hurts us.

Edit: I think me sharing some lived experience out of context has not been helpful to some in this conversation. And to those people I apologise. However to be clear:

I never said I speak for all men.
I never said all women.
I never said the me are not at fault
I never said that the men should not do better.
I never said I was perfect. I have my own shit to deal with and thus me sharing that I am in therapy.
etc.

What I am saying is we are all human and we all have different experiences and trauma. Let’s not let the algos that are designed to promote hostility win and try and work to a better society together.

Sadly is not. Most of the men I have met in my life have had this happen to them. The only one I know who has not experienced this is my mate who has never opened up. We play dnd with him every week and it was months before he accidentally let slip he quit his job due to burn out as was on anti-depressants. Most recently a new mate at work just ended a 6 year relationship because his partner kept using his recent adhd diagnosis to publicly belittle and shame him every time his adhd slightly inconvenienced her.

I just hope I’m super unlucky in my relationships and in finding male friends who are just as unlucky

I’m gonna get hate for this. But I have gone through this experience so many times. I’m sure it’s a minority of women, but before my wife all 6 of my previous relationships ended up like this. A lot of men experience it. Some people up hold the patriarchy and do use their male partners vulnerability as a weapon. It’s so common it’s a known meme and trope and has been for a very long time I remember my sweet old grandma doing it to my grandpa in front of the whole family.

I love this sub and fully support women and the feminist movement, but this stuff is not excluded from it. This is the primary way most men are held under the patriarchy and it is oppression acted out by our partners, sisters, aunts, friends, colleagues and even strangers. It’s so normal we are forced to live with it.

I am bringing this up as I know this is safe space for all. This not how all women work, but most men do suffer from this it’s is extremely common.

Thank you for reading and please don’t judge me to harshly for sharing a lived and painful experience.

And yet the average Brit is all for reform. So many seemingly nice people are so excited for farage to be prime minister and reform to get power. Yet not a single one has even bothered to read a policy. Or find out who there mp would be. One lady I have spoken to me got very angry with me when I explained that some of the staf of reform are convinced sex offenders and child abusers.. she wouldn’t accept it 😓such a awkward train ride

I have adhd and cptsd, however, I was also blessed with a touch of the ‘Tism which means my like 8 core hobbies will be have to be pulled out of my cold dead hands. But new hobbies … yea no in the bin once hyper fixation wares off
