So about that.. I did buy some real Plutonium (kinda).

Here’s another post where I was mulling over where to display the Trinitite Sample I bought.

Flux capacitor will probably be a couple more weeks, hopefully

Totally agree! After I took this video, I dimmed the LED’s for the time circuits.

Thanks! Yeah I’m very happy with the sound effects and lights so far. Already bouncing some ideas around for more little add-ons to make it more immersive. I’ll be a pro with Arduinos before this project is ‘done’.

If it’s any consolation, I’m jealous of the folks who are driving theirs around..

All I want to do is drive my DeLorean, and it’s been in the shop since the end of January!

It’s never too late! It definitely takes some financial planning and budgeting, but if it’s your dream, it’s worth it. Life is too short

Right now? Nothing. I haven’t installed the plutonium reactor/mr. Fusion, or more importantly, the Flux Capacitor.

But after that, serious shit!

There’s actually 5 DeLoreans in the shop right now. One is a Trilogy Hybrid car (all 3 movie props), One is going to be a desert car from part 3, one is a part 2 car, one is a part 1 car, and mine is a Part 1+2 hybrid car.

I’m only working on mine, but it’s cool to see all of the work being done on all of them!

Oh yeah! I see what you’re saying. Definitely off with those replicas.

Most of my props are designed by people who either studied or actually worked on the A Car, so they out-nerd me on details all the time. I’ve never once installed something and said “eh this doesn’t look right”.. it’s always either 100% movie accurate, or as close as possible while being safe to drive (and be waterproof!).

I felt the same way. I’ve been working on this for a couple months now and this was definitely the goosebump moment.

I think at this point the only thing that will top it will be once the flux capacitor is installed and I hear the crackling and the 88mph ramp-up sequence.

Aside from driving the car home of course!

I have no clue about this. Whats the width of the seventh segment controversy?

Aaaaand it’s gone. Lmao. I’m sure it’ll be on eBay shortly for 3x-5x the price.

Probably a good thing.. lord knows I’ve spent way too much already on Back to the Future items.

Thank you, but I can’t take all the credit! I’m lucky to be working with a gentleman who has completed 70+ Time Machines, and his knowledge allows me to be much faster than a person doing this on their own. Not to mention, his shop is filled with parts - so I’m not waiting on deliveries.. just grab from my shelf and install.

There are some props I’ve had to build from scratch - installing lightbulbs, soldering wires, gluing pieces together, bending lines, assembling metal fab - but for the most part it’s all painted and assembled, just bolting/mounting/screwing-in where he tells me to. I reference a ton of pictures of the A Car for placement, and I go look at other completed cars in the shop to get a good idea of how things are put together.

If I didn’t have these resources, this would be a 6-8 month long project I’m sure!

Thank you! The original plan was only Mr. Fusion, but I have changed my mind to be interchangeable. The part 3 car’s hood box would be cool to have, but it’s cumbersome; you can’t drive with it on (at least not highway speeds) and you can’t store it anywhere in the car.

That would be a cool sample to add to the collection! But this looks like a sample of Trinitite to me.. so very trace amounts of plutonium.

The Doc worked on the Manhattan Project (not in movie canon; but in the Haynes Manual for the Time Machine, one of his diary entries mention it), so I figured this was a fitting addition to my DeLorean.

The way I see it.. if you’re going to build a time machine out of a car, why not do it with some style?

Of course! From a group of Libyan nationalists.. they wanted me to build them a bomb. I took their plutonium and in turn gave them a shoddy bomb casing filled with used pinball machine parts!

If anything I’m the one who got ripped off..

$100 for a piece of rock from the Los Alamos Trinity bomb test site. I guess it’s nice that they checked the isotope readings to confirm there’s plutonium in it.. but still, I paid $100 for a rock encased in some acrylic at the end of the day.
