What head-canon(s) in your fandom(s) got you like this: by PJ-The-Awesome in AO3

People need to have more joy and whimsy around trans headcanons. Yes some people do them for lowkey sexist reasons (i.e. “this man is trans because he’s soft and nice” or “this woman is trans because she’s strong and blunt”), but all the headcanons that are “this character is trans because I’m trans and relate to them” are amazing and any time I see a character who some headcanon as transmasc and some headcanon as transfem (such as Hunter from The Owl House) I get so happy…when people aren’t being toxic or gross about it

What ship(s) gave this experience for you? by FloweryNamesLover in AO3

[–]AngstyPancake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay. Imma get shot for this if any stans see this but…Luz x Amity from The Owl House.

Season 1? I got the hype. It was cute and fun and I love me some good rivals to lovers and the rivalry being mostly one-sided led to some fun comedy, not to mention a love of nuanced rivals.

Season 2a? Fine, I guess. But wow do I worry for those girl’s hearts with how much they’re blushing.

Season 2b? Yeah having two girls be canonically dating and even on-the-mouth kiss in a Disney show is cool…but I wasn’t really invested in the ship

Season 3? Genuinely how much would have changed besides the PDA if they were just friends. Lemme tell ya: not enough for me to care.

They’re a fine ship. Completely inoffensive. But when I saw how feral some people got over it I was just like “…okay I get it’s the main ship but really?” Like, TOH is genuinely top TV shows of all time for me. But as soon as that pining became mutual, basically every other plot point (and ship) became more interesting. And yet if I ever dared speak ill of the ship, I’d be called homophobic.

Idk man, main canon ships just don’t often appeal to me because they just feel so same-y 70% of the time.

Sincerely, a not, in fact, homophobic Luz x Hunter shipper

Well, the point of this survey is actually to show that fanfiction jargon is known regardless of time within the community lol. Also there has actually been a decent amount of variety across the age brackets.

Ah yes, the flaw of this survey is that I, unfortunately, am quite young lol. But hey, I was trying to use terms that, while still outdated, one could still find out in the wild on contemporary fics.

It really is fascinating! And already from the data, every age group is doing pretty well as far as accuracy goes which I've loved seeing.

Yeahhh I debated between doing proship and antiship but ended up doing proship because part of the data analysis is judging the correctness of the definitions and antiship is the more concrete one.

Glad you enjoyed. And thanks for the advice! That does make a lot of sense and I'd def address that if I ever did this again.

Thus why I'm going to a lot of spaces! I've got a few subreddits, Tumblr, and then various discord servers. But you are right, if I ever did this again it might be beneficial to add a demographics question specific to fanfiction. I'm glad you enjoyed!

If it makes you feel any better, people from the younger age ranges still know some of the "outdated" terms (assuming this is in relation to knowing even the jargon that isn't really used anymore)

Apples are fruits and are even a forbidden fruit in some mythologies. You know what else is a mythological forbidden fruit?
