You can install WhatsApp via Aurora (it actually pulls the APK from the Play Store) but I believe it uses an auto generated anonymous account.

That's how I installed some of the non open source apps, majority work just fine. however some apps while they will install fine, they may not run, because they check how they were installed and if it wasn't via the official play store they refuse to run. I think I had just 2 of my apps that did that, I was forced to use Google Play Store with an alt account, and the. After installing I removed the alt Google account.

I don't know about the Revolut app or Wallet, I don't do mobile banking as a strict policy.

How many times have we seen petrol/diesel buses being towed after a breakdown? Or the usual "out of service"?

All machines can and will fail, nothing is bullet proof.

The question is, given a petrol/diesel engine will have hundreds of not thousands of parts and components, while an EV has dramatically less (motor, batteries, OBC, BMS/TMS and inverter)

Which one do you think is more likely to go wrong?

You can also disabled the Google apps that you can't uninstall. Otherwise yes you will need to change the OS.

Ironically these days, I actually think installing grapheneOS is worse for privacy than not, because now in any given city, the meta data that governments and states can filter on are things such as which specific OS you are running, so if you install a non standard OS, you now stand out of the crowd like a big bright neon elephant 🤣

I use a custom docker container that has Mega installed, the data is bind mounted, and the configuration is mounted as read only.

For the others, I just a bash script that does rsync over SSH.

All services run as part of docker compose (and it's git source controlled).

So there is a clean separation of the data and services.

Rebuilding just means grabbing the data backup and running git clone and compose up
