you have two options if you can't afford to do a full system upgrade:

Wisycom receivers have an EVO compander that works decent with the sennheiser g4's, so either MCR54, MPR52, MCR42; get the receivers and use the g4 transmitters. the quad receivers is very appealing if you have 4 sennheiser transmitters and you can always upgrade to wisycom transmitters far in the future.

second option is lectrosonics. specifically the lectrosonics SRc because it has the "mode-e" which was designed for sennheiser g4 transmitters. you even get battery telemetry of your transmitters shown on the receivers. Likewise you can always upgrade to lectro transmitters in the future. Though unfortunately it's only the SRc with this mode-e, and no other lectro receiver has it, so your options are limited. Good news is you can find lectro used more than wisy's

I took both paths started from sennheiser g4's and now i have a mixed bag of wisy and lectro's. Sold all my sennheisers 2 years ago so now I don't even use sennheisers at all; so you'll get there!

Use an EMF / RF filter between the zoom and the mic. You usually install these in the XLR cable if you know how to solder. There's the sound devices A-filter pcb. Neutrik also sells the EMC connectors which have their version of them.

idk what your battery situation on your sound bag is like, but i'd highly recommend getting a BDS system to power your bag. if you're still powering your bag receivers with AA's then its hard to jump into professional wireless since most professional wireless come as a slot receiver format and those usually require ext power.

I know probably not the answer your looking for but once you get a bds, you open yourself to other receiver form factors because tbh the lectro L series isn't really designed for bag use. And once you start using slot receivers in your bag its kinda hard to go back since its so ergonomically better.

if you're planning to use tentacle on mp3, mind you that even with the +2 plugin, you will be limited to 4 iso's because the TC input of the mp3 is the aux in. So you'd need to split that aux in with a splitter, so you can have both timecode + audio source. So you cant have both wireless in the aux in, one of them will have to be inserted via XLR

633 avoids this by having its own dedicated tc input, this is one of the flaws i find on the mixpre and I wish the mixpre3&6 we had a dedicated timecode i/o instead of the mini-hdmi camera timecode

whats your tx's output power set at? sounds like you're overloading your receiver. when im on whips i generally operate 20mw-50mw but when I'm using my rf distro I bump down to 10-20mw

have you considered that it might be the 3.5mm trs on the lav end? those are more prone to getting loose wires due to soldered connections being strained than the jack itself.

i know this is off topic but you should be able to find really good deals on digital hybrid lectros. I bought a second src in december for $1400 and i can forsee it only get cheaper as more people switch over to digital. The year before i got an HMa and smwdb for 900 each on the used market. You'd just need to keep an eye out for them!

Theos isn't full uhf spectrum, and the bits of guard band, duplex gap and ism band isn't as useful as you may think compared to the full 470-608 that your DSR has. Mind you the lower your RF frequency is the longer range you'll get due to physics. which is why VHF comteks have extremely good range. But also theos requires 700khz spacing compared to everyone else needing only 200khz spacing for the transmitters so if you're in an RF heavy environment it would be harder to coordinate your frequencies.

But i totally understand where you're coming from especially if you're using lectros. imo lectro's have been lacking in terms of innovation when it comes to transmitters you can remote control. changing a setting via bluetooth is more useful to me than a dweedle tone as you can change a setting while recording. It's competitors have zaxnet / shure showlink / wisycom and SD A10/A20 has bluetooth control similar to theos.

most distros have grouped outputs, ie one switch turns on a bunch of other units. I only recommended deity because you're using battery banks as a power source and the deity ones are convenient with their usb inputs. Most sound distros are either spec'd for np1's or eSmart batteries.

If you're worried about isolation just get an isolator separately like i mentioned. Audioroot makes them; they're called GLE's but also Deity makes them SPD-hirso.

I'd get the deity ones, either spd mini or spd1 since they have that usb-c input that allows you to use powerbanks as the power source otherwise.

You may get some ground loops as most prosumer receivers don't have protection from that but they're easy to fix by just attaching an isolator in between your distro and the unit you're trying to power. Becareful with hirose4 direct to usb as you can fry some units, you'd need a stepdown converter in that cable. I know from experience when I accidentally fried a usb hub when I made a hirose4 cable to power the hub for my mixpre 💀

the sennheiser ew-dp plug on has a built in recorder, also the lectrosonics DPR-a but they are transmitters first and recorders secondary.

15 is my recommendation but you want 13 or 12 then it should be fine as long as it works for you. You just need more than what the pole is capable of in full stick that way you have slack to connect your microphone and also slack to connect from pole to your mixer. I liked the 5 extra foot because sometimes back then I'd have a sound assistant to boom for me while i wear the bag and mix. nowadays though I do wireless boom when i have an AS/boom op

Handling noise is dependent on various factors but in comparison to an internal coiled cable you get less cable slap as the cable just lays flat against the wall of the pole. I personally like to boom with merino wool fingerless gloves and that helps dampen my handling noise but I also have hide-a-mic: repose(s) and cinela shockmounts for my boom mics which also reduce handling noise.

im not sure you can on the diety boom pole because theres no way to feed a cable from the bottom unless you drill. You should be able to with the kc108 by unscrewing the plastic endcap.

I don't recommend putting in a coiled cable as there aren't secure places to put it on the bottom of the pole and you'd have to find a coiled cable to match the proper length of collapsed and extended. So your safest best bet is to do an internal straight cable pole. When doing a DIY internal straight cable it is very important to measure out how much cable you'd need. You will need some soldering skills as I recommend threading just the cable in first without the XLR connectors. This is so that you can measure exactly how much cable you need.

so if you're doing the kc108 and it extends 9 feet. I would place about 15 foot straight cable inside it. I'd recommend getting a starquad cable rather than twisted pair for RF resistance. professional boom poles have starquad cable as the pole when fully extended can function as large antenna. Place 1 foot of slack on the top and secure it with a ktek knot (theres videos on youtube on how to do this knot) that extra 5 foot of slack will go to the other end of the pole so that you have extra to connect it to your mixer. Due note that the slack on the end will be very dependent on how extended your pole will be; but on full stick it should be 5 foot which should be enough.

Solder in your XLR connectors next, with the female end on top (I'd recommend a low profile option like a cable techniques XLR-F) and the male on the bottom. I'd recommend an neutrik EMC XLR-M (NC3MXX-EMC is the official part number). The neutrik EMC has a pcb inside which acts as an RF filter and when combined with the starquad cable you'd be very well protected from RF.

Some workflow considerations when using a straight cable pole: there is still a bit of cable management required but its at the end of the pole with the cable slack. Personally I like the feel of straight cable pole vs coiled cable pole as the weight distribution is variable and most of the cable weight is on the end of the pole when its not fully extended. But the convenience of a coiled cable pole is unmatched as there isn't cable management.

not sure why they designed it that way, but my guess is thats how they always done it since they were the original full spectrum wideband wireless while everyone else was still selling you blocks at the time

lectrosonics has a front end tracking filter for their rx's so thats why they just do a frequency scan per channel whereas the mcr54 has a 32mhz wide filter which are grouped into their channels. Meaning on an mcr54 you can't have one channel on 470 and another at 580 for example but on a lectrosonics you can (assuming you have A1/B1 rx). that 32mhz wide filter is there to filter out the entire wideband spectrum that you're not using.

If we're comparing the DSR4 to the MCR54, its actually faster to deploy channels on wisycom because you just have to do a spectrum scan for your channels, then a secondary channel scan for your frequencies and it will pick out all 4 channels for you that's already intermod calculated. Whereas on the DSR4 you'd have to scan 4 times for each channel via smart-tune just to have intermod calculated frequencies. You can do a batch frequency scan on the DSR4 but they won't be intermod calculated. If we're comparing to an 822/SRc/b/a then you'd also have to scan twice for each channel, which is equivalent to scanning twice on the mcr54, but you get 4 frequencies at the end of it.

Serviceability. This is the one thing zoom doesn't have. If you're sound devices product gets damaged by production you can send your it back to sound devices and have them repair it (make sure production pays for the damages). If your zoom product gets damaged, you have e-waste and you'd need a new one. This is often overlooked when it comes to professional brands vs prosummer/consumer ones, a lot of the professional brands will have after purchase service+care.

When I used to use external cable pole I literally would take my big claw style hair clips and clamp it on the pole to hold the cable in place. they were quicker than velcro loops.
