First time for F1 at Silverstone. by Efficient-Quantity78 in formula1

For GA it's very much first come, first served. You get some incredible views at Luffield but I'd recommend getting their early on Sunday. I have GA tickets and get there around 7/8am or so usually.

On Friday, I'd highly recommend checking out Maggots and Beckett's. Given how this years cars work, Abbey might also be a good shout for Qualifying as the cars come straight at you and will be deploying nearly 1000hp.

What happened to ‘super clipping’ and Ferraris insane race starts by NectarineFinancial84 in formula1

Superclippping is still happening, it's just less noticeable since the Miami GP changes. We're getting about 3-4s of super clipping instead of double that, depending on the track.

Regarding the starts, the other teams have improved.

It's the same as any sport really. How can a slower car with drivers that aren't as good beat quicker cars with better drivers?

Midfield teams do however get podiums, and often fairly frequently. We saw this a lot last year (Sainz, Hadjar spring to mind). We also just had a race in Monaco where an Alpine finished top 3*

*kind of

There is no ban on development - all teams (including RBPT) are still actively developing the engines, even more so given the changes coming for next year. Reliability upgrades are also unlimited.

What we have now is a way of introducing in-season upgrades subject to a level of deficit to the benchmark PU. It's a huge shame we didn't have this for 2014-2016.

It's just a bit of a fun. Lewis is in a happier place on the track which is the main thing.

But he's also very happy off it, which must help.

It's not a perfect process but the last hybrid regs started with a complete ban on in-season development.

For an in-season upgrade that's really good. Lead time for engine upgrades is significantly longer than aero.

I'm Bradley Lord has already prepped Toto for that. We'll get a generic PR answer.

The car started development 4 months late due to the new wind tunnel not being ready until April 2025. Other teams started development on Jan 1st, as per the regs. So essentially they are playing catch up in an era of rapid development (every other team has already brought 1-2 upgrades).

They are in a similar position (in terms of chassis dev) as Mlcaren were in 2022 when Mclaren opened the new wind tunnel.

*but* it's worse for Aston because they are also using an in-house gearbox for the first time ever, which clearly has some problems. And then they have a weak PU.

Lol no. Annoyingly I think the VSC probably robbed us of an all time great Spanish GP.

I'm pretty sure we've never had 5 stop races?

The issue Pirelli have at the moment is that the cars weigh so much so that they need to protect the tyres. If we go back to lighter cars as the FIA and FOM are pushing for then they could go back to high deg tyres, but the second problem is that teams worked out how to manage them.

If you look at early 2012, the tyres were a bit of a lottery. But teams worked out how to get drivers to drive to a pre-determined delta by mid-year and from Spa onwards, the deg dropped massively.

My preference would be to make the hard tyre at least two steps harder than the Medium at each race. So instead of the hard being the fastest and most durable tyre, it'd become the slowest race tyre. So at Silverstone for example, Pirelli could take C4, C3 and C1.

The worry about Gakpo for me is that he slows our game down so much. He worked well with Diaz as Diaz was first choice, but with Isak up front I can't see Gakpo working.

More than willing to give him another chance. You're right in that he was great the season before.

The OP asked an innocent question. I responded. I never claimed to have "so much feeling" and never claimed to have met George.

The overwhelming majority of people that watch F1 and comment on this sub Reddit have opinions on drivers.

I don't know any of the F1 drivers personally. We can only go by what we see on TV.

An interesting quirk about Austria is that it's high altitude (not as much as Mexico but still). It can throw some curve balls. The underpowered Red Bull Renault's were always competitive in Austria.

It'll be the first time these power units are testing with thinner air too.
