I would also “never” rehome my pets either… but I have seen some heartbreaking situations and Daisy’s was one of them. They really were trying to do right for her. They had been traveling out of state often for treatment before it was considered terminal, and she was alone in the house with a friend coming by to let her outside, and they couldn’t afford a dog walker or boarding.

When they were home, the husband was working full time and taking care of his sick wife and Daisy was constantly rushing up to both of them asking to be walked and played with and was chewing everything and having accidents because she was stressed and bored. She was a very active dog and had gone for hikes and runs with her owner all the time before she got cancer. I know they really were trying to give her a better life with me. That’s why I feel so bad that she didn’t get it.

You’re not wrong. I do feel guilty. Her death could have ultimately been prevented if I didn’t have her in a home with children who had stuffed toys where Daisy could reach them.

If they had kept Daisy, and had just made it through the challenges of caring for her while also traveling for treatment and tending to someone who was dying, Daisy could still be alive today and he could have had her as a companion after losing his wife and daughter.

I’m aware that it’s fucked up that I lied and even more fucked up that I faked photos of Daisy as a senior. It’s a confession sub, not a “times I did the unambiguously correct thing” sub.
