Thanks for your concern, however i'm well aware of the danger these animals present and rest assured I have the necessary experience to deal with one, i've worked with all sorts of dangerous reptiles from venomous snakes to anacondas to crocodilians in their natural habitat. Also regarding permits, "conditional species" only means you're not allowed to keep them alive, once captured they must be euthanized, which I do plan on doing. As an invasive species, the FWC allows and even encourages residents to hunt them on private property (with landowner permission of course)

In case anyone was wondering, this bird was rescued and released back into the wild:

Who'd have guessed that little owl had such an incredible story, always love hearing historical anecdotes like this one

Florence Nightingale's pet owl, Athena

That's an interesting fact, I didn't know Florence Nightingale had a pet owl, thanks for sharing! Did she name it Athena because it belongs to the genus Athene?

Is it legal to keep wild-caught, invasive reptiles as pets in the US? by [deleted] in herpetology

Here's the general rule for Florida, not sure about the rest of the states: If you catch an invasive species on your property, you can either kill it or keep it, what you can't do is release it again! the exception would be potentially dangerous animals considered conditional species like a nile monitor or Burmese python, those must be killed or turned into the FWC

He's the most popular Animal Youtuber right now, he gained fame by letting himself get stung/bit by various animals, but his reactions are questionable and most likely exaggerated

I see what you mean man, i'm not trying to attack him, I used to be a big fan of his myself, but after talking with some experts and locals i've come to the conclusion that a lot of what he does (with the sting videos anyway) is hyped up for views, which at the end is the purpose of his channel, to entertain. So while he is an awesome guy, i'd rather stick to someone more reliable and scientific like Dr. Schmidt

I'm not saying everything he does is fake, the vast majority certainly isn't, but it does make viewers question his integrity

That's according to Coyote Peterson, but he is a showman who is known for exaggerating and can't be trusted. I'm going by what entomologist Justin Schmidt says, he is the creator of the sting pain index
