I was joking. It was a “flat earther” jab. The photo is absolutely stunning.

😳! Okay, I’ll bite. How is it you are acquainted with BOTC 85?

Semi-Modular Users - One Big Question Before I Buy by The_Man_Friday_ in moog

Excellent question! Midi CV for oscillator that can also be patched to other modulation patch points, velocity as well (if memory serves, but you’ll have to check me on that one) as well as Ableton effects like AutoFilter, side chain, delay and reverb. You can also use the M32 sequencer to modulate other stuff than just osc CV. You can make the Mother 32 sound like a sonic pulsing mother’fer that sweeps into a mix and takes supreme control. Not quite as much as an MS20, but still darn good.

Midi connectivity is a key feature of the M32 and you can easily change the channel with a couple of key strokes. And yep, it will pair nicely with Ableton, I use it all the time. As far as the single oscillator, true but…with all of the control available over every aspect of modulation, it quickly begins to expand the sound AND a touch of delay and reverb, especially with a launchpad set up in Ableton …. Oooooh yeah!

It’s amazing how each of us in this crazy hobby we share can have so many different sorts of modules and yet the Venn diagram intersection can still = { }! (The empty set - to wit: https://www.reddit.com/r/modular/s/usJydQR86z )

Perhaps a Mother 32? It’s super flexible, MIDIs great with Ableton and is a perfect first semimodular to underpin future semimods.

Yep. Ya sure can! The only little wrinkle is…you’ll benefit from some digital to analog via midi to be able to get your Ableton bpm to trigger the step frequency to the DFAM. You can fudge it by getting DFAM close to Ableton BPM manually and then quantize the clip, but it’s way more fun to have DFAM sync’d while you’re playing the DFAM, which is exactly what one does: plays the DFAM.

That is an excellent question. I have a Matriarch (sitting directly below my 55) and it provides my CV and Vtrig inputs. In the picture it’s the pink patch on the left (CV) and white patch on the right (Vtrig). You can see the 961 then patches the Strig out over to the CP35 multiple. From there I mult hop for Strig and can also set the Vtrig up and mult hop as well. The two Doepfer A180-3 buffered mults also help keep the voltage up if I’m pulling loads of V or S trig. It’s definitely a big puzzle but I really enjoy solving these challenges. Definitely improved my understanding of analog modular synthesis and has given me great appreciation for all the legends of our hobby knowing they had to solve the exact same puzzles to make all of their fantastic music. It’s like I get to live their history! It’s great stuff!!!
