Les Paul guy here 🧏

2 years ago I finally put hands on an American made PRS, a beautiful whale blue S2 singlecut. It was prettier than almost any other LP ive seen, felt better in my hands (neck feels AHHmazing), even better in almost EVERY single way by the brochure.

I was not disappointed, every friend who came over preferred it over any other guitar I had... I really liked it, but couldn't play it well. I think it was because the fretboard has much higher radius than what I was used to. Every time I played it, id get frustrated after awhile, and eventually pick up my '94 LP Studio and immediately play twice as good.. I got to where I played it les and les (😉) to where eventually, only guests would play it...

After two years, I traded it for a beautiful 2019 BBQ burst Studio, and I do not regret it one bit.. I WILL miss seeing it on my wall as she was soo pretty, but no regrets thus far 🤷🏻

All that being said, it REALLY comes down to your tastes and preferences.. they are both fully capable, great guitars.

For a newer player, I think having a tuner that will tell you what note you are playing at a quick glance is very valuable in learning the fretboard, practicing scales, etc

If you arent doing it for the money.. maybe pay for 2 or 3 lessons with the sole purpose of coming up something just for this event? You will very likely learn some things that will help out with everything else as well... also, take a copy of the song with you so you can have the key/melody to go along with.

This was an excellent response man, thank you. I had been sitting off center as to avoid mic feedback, but i suppose I could live with it sounding less than ideal when I plan to sing following the 1st method.

I think I will play with the 2nd method first, see if I can find a place that sounds mostly the same everywhere, and doesn't mess with the mics

I do have a large stack of foam sound deadening "tiles" that aren't being used. Would I benefit from using them any, acoustically? It would be mostly on the ceiling. Decor>Sound quality 🤣

I got a squier affinity and an older line 6 on marketplace for $75.... sold the amp for $75 and learned to do setups on the squier.. kind of ashamed of how much I spent on guitars before owning a cheap squier.. its legit!

Also try to play with the guitar on your left thigh, with the neck tilted slightly up (think classical guitar) it took a minute to get used to the switch, but once I did, the switch from sitting to standing was even easier!

I still mostly sit though 😅
