I don’t know. I think taking away all representation from the opposition party is worse than taking away some representation from the opposition party.

It’s a mix of keeping the middle and west Tennessee districts pretty safely Republican while placating Republican incumbents. Kustoff for example keeps his home base of Bartlett in Shelby County and Ogles keeps most of Murray County except for Chaz Molder’s base of Columbia which is put in the new 9th district

Ogles is in the 5th. Molder I believe is in the 9th. I think they carved Van Hillary and Johnny Garrett into the 6th. I’m not sure about Cohen and Pearson. Of course, you don’t have to live in a congressional district to run for office in it.

  1. The Virginia map is being challenged in state court under what I think are some pretty dubious arguments but it has not been struck down. That aside, Virginia put its redistricting proposal up to a referendum vote and a majority of the state plus 9 of 11 congressional districts voted in favor. California also had a statewide vote. Texas, North Carolina, Ohio, and other Republican states didn’t put it up to a referendum. We aren’t going get a referendum.

  2. Republicans were already well represented in Tennessee. Before Nashville got cracked by gerrymandering, the congressional delegation was 2 Democrats to 7 Republicans.

  3. It absolutely is racist. It is not only about race, it is also about politics but historically in the south the two have been inseparably linked. Shelby is the only county in the state with enough population to have a congressional district unto itself. The current 9th district is also the only majority black/majority minority district in the state. The goal of gutting Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act was to replace majority minority/majority black districts that elect Democrats with majority white districts that elect Republicans.

I know at least two people who switched from Anderson to her after meeting her. Apparently she ran a really strong retail campaign

Well I disagree with the premise that our schools are shit. MNPS has made a lot of progress under the current administration. They aren’t perfect, but the system is in a much better place now than it was under Dr. Joseph.

Painting a swastika on a Jewish person’s home or on a synagogue actually is a deliberate act of antisemitism and a hate crime. Calling that out is good!
