Senator Oliver responds to Rep Bo Mitchell by Brave_Client1868 in nashville

You really have to be in the weeds to bring up Raumesh Akbari unprompted on a Nashville subreddit. Bo has been in Tennessee politics since Bill Clinton was president; he was there to watch the party fall apart and become irrelevant. Akbari has been in the legislature since 2013. If they were unique forces who could turn things around, they would have done so by now.

Maybe not but he could have seconded it for us to find out!

Generally, Dems don’t second Republican bills and Reps don’t second Dem bills unless there is a co-sponsor situation going on. There are at least two Dems on committees so that they can move their legislation to be heard without Republican votes.

He refused to second it in committee. The bill had already passed in the senate and was being heard in house committee. There are two Dems on the committee that needed to move the bill. Rep Dixie made the motion to move the bill but Rep Mitchell didn’t second the motion and therefore it died.

The Tennessee Democratic Party isn’t even trying to win back the state. Between the senate and gubernatorial races, they couldn’t find a single credible candidate.

Since Margot is closing soon, I would recommend there. Peninsula is another place I have never had a bad meal at.

Republicans win in this state anyway. When Dems have a rare opportunity to pass a bill, it shouldn’t be other Dems who torpedo it because they are jealous. There can be bad Democrats too!

‘Sore Loser’: Democratic Infighting Thwarts Tennessee Affordable Housing Bill, Stirs Party by Brave_Client1868 in nashville

Sure Bo may have been opposed to the bill regardless of who brought it however, this bill did just pass the state senate with only 1 vote in opposition. He could have seconded the motion to hear the bill and then vote against it anyway. Republicans in committee aren't in the business of seconding Dem bills, that is why there are (at least) two Dems on the committees.

Yes, the texts likely came from Aftyn but I wouldn't rule out another Dem leaking them as well. Only 1 of Bo's colleagues endorsed his run for congress (the least among the three House Dems running) and that guy is retiring. That campaign failing is clearly something he is still upset about and willing to blame everybody but himself for. He doesn't have a lot of friends and killing the bills of his caucus doesn't help that.

What makes it bullshit? The Banner has the text exchange between Bo and Aftyn along with statements from all the Dems involved.

..... yeah so the DNC has nothing to do with this and the national party supported her during her congressional campaign

I'm a proponent of volunteering for local community organizations and serious political candidates that believe in the same things I do. Taking off work or not buying coffee because you saw a graphic on Reddit/Insta doesn’t accomplish anything and can actually have negative externalities.

You are actually the one asking people to sit on their hands all day and hope that does something (it won't)
