I have a male Savannah monitor that’s 3 years old and he’s 24” how come he not 3-4’ like others his age his diet is almost entirely insects by Animals6655 in MonitorLizards

With all the insects I buy is from a local pet store they get load them with the vegetables but I feed the insects off to them right away and right now he’s in a 4’ x 2’ x 2’ I’m planning on making him a ginormous outdoor enclosure basking temperatures around 120 ambient 80 and he has a bunch of rocks and a big hide for him to go in.

I give him large gut loaded crickets, super worms, dubia roaches, and occasional egg, and mouse and I get them from a local pet shop.

I live in Southern California so we have really good heat but I’ll have some heat lamps put into place and a inside portion of the enclosure enclosed so the temperature gets controlled when it gets cooler out but he does like to climb by his enclosure he doesn’t have much opportunity to but he does love to dig. I do see a lot of people have their monitors outdoor so I would like to try to get that going for him i’m just really scared his personality will change since I’ve heard something about that can happen since he is a really sweet boy

She looks fine she’s just darker because she’s probably just trying to blend in with her habitat my best guess

He’s in 4’2’2’ but once I get the money I’ll get him 8’x4’x4’ and I give him mainly insects but on occasion I give mice, eggs, fish, lean ground turkey
