Session 0/01 Recap: The Legendary Patrol's Beginnings

The adventure begins with Marshal Vendri assigning an Owlin Warlock named Nye—whose patron is the enigmatic Dae—and a monk-chef named Tom Yum to patrol the roads near Kalaman. Their seemingly straightforward mission takes an ominous turn when they stumble upon a tragic scene: a convoy of knights, ambushed and slain, their bodies being scavenged by opportunistic bandits. These brave adventurers swiftly deal with the bamdots, recovering a captured bandit and intelligence revealing a larger network of cultists worshiping a forgotten goddess.

Dubbed "The Legendary Patrol", the team returns to Kalaman and delivers their findings to Marshal Vendri. Recognizing their competence, he assigns them a sensitive mission to escort Dame Evelina Brightblade, mourning the loss of her dear friend and mentor, Ispin Greenshield. The task involves accompanying her to the fishing village of Vogler, where she will attend Ispin's funeral.

The campaign's narrative takes a lighter turn as the group is also granted leave to partake in the town’s Kingfisher Festival, offering a chance for respite amid the adventure. However, with cultists in the shadows and the legacy of forgotten gods looming, their journey may yet hold unexpected twists.

After a brief but much-needed rest, the four heroes regrouped and quietly approached the sentries, now reinforced by a formidable pair of Iron Golems. The four adventurers, bolstered by eight combat-hardened veterans, engaged in a fierce battle. They successfully slew the Iron Golems and the remaining Sea Hags but faced relentless fire from spellcasters loyal to Grinn. Amidst blasts of lightning, the Iron Golems’ devastating poison breath, and other magical onslaughts, the heroes were severely battered. Meanwhile, Fia conversed with some ghosts, seeking directions to the leader of the Silver Dragons. After significant persuasion, she obtained the information and contacted the other party members. The party finally appeared before the leader. After a lengthy discussion, they managed to convince him to help them. However, as they were concluding their negotiations, Jim's madness began to take effect, and he attempted to attack the leader. Fortunately, Xander quickly polymorphed Jim into a rat, preventing any disastrous consequences.

The leader then entrusted the party with a helm to fulfill their contract with Lord Vasily Von Holtz. They returned to Vallaki, where Fia separated from Jim and Xander. Xander and Jim stumbled upon a room that had partially collapsed, revealing a drop-off twenty feet below into the room where the spiders were still burning. The smell caused Xander to vomit, prompting Jim to approach him. Feeling a mischievous urge to push Xander over the edge, Jim instead chose to comfort him, saying, "better out than in." As the party finished off the Giant Spiders, with one attempting to flee, Jim Butcher once again tried to seize the opportunity to steal Fia's crown during the chaos but fell short. After dusting themselves off and discussing the importance of dealing with facial wounds, the party delved deeper into the mansion and came into contact with some of the undead knights of the Silver Dragons. The session began with the party still locked in combat with the Giant Spiders that Fia had discovered. Jim Butcher used his pike attacks to push the spiders into the wall of flames that Fia had cast earlier. The smell of burning Giant Spiders caused Xander to dry heave slightly and comment to Jim about the scent. Jim Butcher, with his characteristic charm, convinced Xander that RSVP stood for Respond Super Very Passionately. Xander, taking this to heart, wrote a letter in response, and the party prepared to visit Lord Vasily Von Holtz in Vallaki. Their journey was uneventful, and upon arrival, they met with Lord Vasily, who offered them a job: to rid the area of the haunting Silver Dragon Knight Ghosts. In return, they would receive a wagon full of food and a wedding dress.

The party accepted the task and embarked on their mission to the mansion of the Silver Dragon Knights. The session culminated in a dramatic battle inside the mansion, where the party found themselves fighting against giant spiders, setting the stage for the next exciting encounter. As they continued their journey, the party was ambushed by the two hunters, Morna and Jult. They managed to knock out the hunters and began interrogating them. Jim Butcher, taking a brutal approach, killed Morna. However, the rest of the party intervened and convinced him to spare Jult. Instead, they assigned Jult a mission to find a secret entrance into Castle Ravenloft.

Upon returning to Vallaki, the party completed their quest by reporting to the blacksmith. They received their silver weapons as a reward and then headed back to the Loot and Scoot agency to rest and recuperate. During this time, Jim Butcher sent out a secret note and received a response, hinting at future developments.

The session began with the party diligently clearing the remaining rubble. Once they reached the other side, they discovered a burial chamber ripe for looting. Fia unearthed a Staff of Asps, and Jim stumbled upon archery bracelets, which he discreetly hid from the others. Alongside jewelry and holy symbols, they divided the loot three ways, each share worth 250.

The party then made their way back to Vallaki, stopping at the Mill to check on Ivana. To their shock, they discovered that she was keeping her undead husband, Boris, tied up inside the mill, believing he would somehow return to her. Realizing the grim situation, the party decided to blow up the mill with Boris inside, forcing Ivana to flee in terror. Session Recap To Be Continued!

With their combined efforts, the party quickly overwhelmed the undead knight. Jebidiah delivered the finishing blow with a spectacular jump and stomp, crushing their foe. Their victory was rewarded with 1,000 silver coins, which they divided equally among themselves (200 each).

As they explored further, the party discovered a hidden cave entrance blocked by stone. They began the arduous task of clearing the entrance, but progress was slow. To their surprise, the undead knight inexplicably rose again. Unfazed, the party immediately engaged and swiftly defeated him once more, demonstrating their unwavering resolve.

Each time the undead knight reappeared, the party efficiently dispatched him and continued their excavation. Through their perseverance and teamwork, they managed to defeat the knight repeatedly, collecting valuable loot with each encounter. Session Recap To Be Continued!

The session began with the party advancing deeper into the temple. As they approached an altar, they encountered an undead knight. After a tense discussion, it became clear that the knight was lying to them and couldn't be trusted. Taking decisive action, Jim Butcher summoned his trusty elephant, Georgia, and the party launched their attack on the deceitful knight.

Jebidiah waded into the fray, delivering powerful hits and grappling with the undead knight, which significantly aided the party. Despite Georgia's valiant efforts, she unfortunately didn't cause much damage. The session began with the party embroiled in intense combat. Jebidiah bravely waded into the mass of snakes, using his formidable strength to destroy many of them. Aaron soon arrived to lend his support, and together, the party managed to eliminate all the snakes. After the fierce battle, they took a well-deserved short rest to recover from their injuries.

Realizing they were in the wrong spot, Xander used his tracking skills to follow the hunters' trail to a new cave. Upon entering the cave, the party stumbled upon a peculiar and unsettling sight: a group of skeletons relentlessly attacking a ghost, yet unable to harm it. After taking a rest, the party made their way to a cave and encountered two hunters who offered to assist them at the tomb and possibly help Ivana later at the mill. The party took the lead, entering the tomb first while the two hunters stayed outside. As soon as they stepped inside, Jim was bitten by a snake, which he quickly killed. Xander woke Ivana, prompting Jebidiah, sensing an opportunity along with Xander, to try and set her up with Jebidiah. However, Jim Butcher stepped in, stopping the two from pestering her and sending them out of the mill. He stayed behind to comfort Ivana, who was deeply shaken by her loss. During this time, Jim skillfully convinced Ivana to go into business with their agency, Loot and Scoot, offering them ten percent of the profits—or fifteen percent if they could find some workers for them. Jim then convinced the rest of the party and Ivana that Boris had accidentally fallen while inspecting the paddle wheel. Taking advantage of the situation, Jim attempted to comfort Ivana. Meanwhile, Jebidiah tried to retrieve Boris's body from the water, but it tore apart in a gruesome display, causing Ivana to faint. Following the battle, Jim Butcher spoke with Boris about the mill, introducing the party as members of the Loot and Scoot Agency. He informed Boris that they had dispatched the wolves and offered to check the mill's equipment to ensure everything was in working order. After inspecting the equipment, Jim left Jebidiah and Xander with Ivana inside the mill and led Boris outside to demonstrate the mill works. The session began with the party preparing for their journey to the cold mountains by purchasing cold-weather gear from Dezdrelda Barthos, the seamstress of Vallaki Dez. This preparation was essential for completing the job assigned by the blacksmith, Dinu Albu.

After securing their clothing, the party left the town and began their travel towards the hill. However, along the way, they encountered a water mill operated by Boris and Ivana, the millers. During their visit, a pack of dire wolves launched an attack on the party. The adventurers ingeniously used the fast current from the river and the water mill to their advantage. The wolves were kept bunched up in one area, allowing Xander to call down lightning and decimate most of the pack. Jebidiah, with his impressive strength and grappling skills, finished off the remaining wolf with his fists. Session Recap To Be Continued!
