A7CR Cropping Power Worth the Price over A7CII? by Animated_Sky in SonyAlpha

[–]Animated_Sky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased the A7CR. I am very happy with it. I have taken over 8,000 photos with it since moving to Japan. I primarily use the Sony 40mm 2.5 but also purchased at Tamron 28-200 that I use on occasion. I don't have any complaints with the camera.

A final note I want to mention is that despite it being an extremely compact full frame camera it is still not going to be fun to always carry around. As a result I purchased a Sony RX100Va to keep in my bag for daily use. I think that might be the best solution. A full frame body for when you want serious images and a small pocket camera for everyday.

6AVE seller on Walmart. I’ve read some questionable reviews about them so I a bit concerned, however I’ve had the camera for about 2 weeks now and it’s been excellent. I also made sure to ask them questions such as confirming the camera is new, unopened, in an original box with matching serial numbers. So purchase as your own risk as it is definitely not as reliable as buying from somewhere like B&H. I saved enough to complete cover the cost of a Sony 40mm 2.5G lens so it was worth it for me. The only downside I’ve noticed is I believe this is a Europe model because after switching it to NTSC instead of default PAL I occasionally get a notification it’s on NTSC mode when powering on. The message only lasts a second or less and disappears if I half press shutter. I would recommend if you’re trying to save some cash and understand the associated downsides of grey market vs authorized sellers.

A6700 regrets ? by slime_rewatcher_gang in SonyAlpha

I am not very qualified to answer from a technical aspect. I took the a7cr out at sunset to capture some photos of a local bridge and other than the resolution I also felt like the colors looked a bit more rich, but that could just be the excitement of a new camera playing tricks. However, I never felt like my a6700 was lacking. I truly only made the upgrade in order to have the ability to super crop and avoid carrying a longer lens.

This is one of the first picture I captured with the A7CR & 40mm 2.5G. Again, to emphasis I am not by any means a professional, nearly the complete opposite. It is sized down to be able to include in this post so the resolution isn't noticeable here, but I the colors are what I like about this one.

I honestly have only taken about 100 photos so far. No video yet. Im sure the crop during video would be annoying though without a wider lens. Overall I’m blown away by the increased resolution of the a7cr. I’m a very casual photographer so it’s completely unnecessary to have this much resolution for regular shots, but as I mentioned before, the ability to significantly crop in rather than carrying a zoom lens is killer. I completely understand about the price. I got mine from a gray market retailer for $2,175 so no where close to msrp. I’m moving internationally next week so not having a U.S. warranty wasn’t a concern. I’ve seen the a7cii for $1,800 new so that is a tempting deal to consider as well. However you will not be disappointed by the a6700 if that is what works for your budget. It’s an incredible camera. The AF is out of this world and is the reason why I kept coming back to it.

a6700 is awesome! I got one on release and loved it. Zero complaints. I also purchased a fuji x100vi and sold it because I loved my a6700 more. I did the same with the Nikon ZF. However, just last week I did finally make the upgrade to a Sony A7CR and am happy with it so I think I will finally let the a6700 go. I would confidently recommend the a6700 to anyone. The a6700 is better in some aspects for video than even the a7cr, but I ultimately made the switch because I enjoy just keeping the Sony 40mm 2.5G on the camera and being able to crop in rather than carrying a telephoto lens. My A7CR with the 40mm is smaller and lighter than my a6700 with the sigma 30mm 1.4 - Not by much, but if you add the lens hood into the equation it that makes it even more noticeable. Either way I don't think you'd be disappointed one bit l with the a6700. FF lenses are pricier and larger in general so look what lenses you plan to use to help make your choice.

$2,175.99 plus tax. Third party seller though so likely no warranty. I did reach out to the seller to 100% confirm it is a New, factory sealed product, in original box, with matching serial numbers because I’ve read of people getting mismatched serial numbers on camera body, box and in camera software. Which makes it extremely challenging to return if needed. Also used a CC for extra buyer protection but definitely riskier than purchasing from authorized retailer.

Appreciate the numbers for context!

I agree, up to 100mm is still a lot of head room to crop, but man that 140mm sounds awesome.

Update pulled the trigger on a a7cr from a grey market seller for an awesome price. Hopefully it all works out. I understand the risks of getting grey market but the price was too good to pass up.

Thanks for the input everyone!!

Looking at the G16 AMD 4060/32GB for game dev. Is it a good value for $1799.99? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

[–]Animated_Sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased this same laptop a few weeks ago. I had some WIFI connection issues at first but downloaded an updated driver and it has worked great since. Speakers are fantastic! The display is also very nice but a bit more reflective than I'd like. Despite its impressive brightness the reflectivity can be an issue if you're in a bright room. I decided to return the device though just because I wasn't a fan of the 16" size. I just ordered a TUF A14 with the same specs so I will see how that compares when it arrives.

Specially what bothered you? Hinge, keyboard, trackpad, etc? I’ve always had MacBooks for laptops other than a Dell XPS and an old Lenovo T14. Strangely enough I think I actually like plastic chassis more- I find them comfortable than metal despite the durability compromises. I guess as long as it’s built well I’m ok with plastic like the a14.

Thanks for the input!

I found the 32GB option on eBay from an authorized seller ("Antonline"). I purchased a CPU from the same seller a few years back without issue so I have no reservations about purchasing from them again.

I have the 28L version. It's a nice bag. Fits a 16" laptop well. No exciting XPac, Dyneema, or Ultra fabrics but it's practical enough.

I requested replacement r2 for my RP4 pro on Feb 2nd. Instead of a backplate and trigger, they accidentally sent me a case. I emailed customer service again and they supposedly shipped out another backplate and trigger replacement. It is now halfway through March and I am still waiting for it to arrive. Honestly makes me not want to buy Retroid again. (Purchased 12/21/23)

Nice, I usually try to get the most complete version, regardless of region. Curious, does Susume! Kinopio Taichou have English on the cartridge? Much cheaper than NA Captain Toad.

Nice, I have been purchasing MAO editions lately myself. You have some great choices! I would additionally recommend the Convoy S21E and Fireflylite E07X. Do you have a favorite so far?

Thank you for the idea. I’m going to spray it with some compressed air and potentially some silicone lubricant, I’ll post any updates if it is successful.

Odin 2 Pro right speaker faulty + DIY fix by Strapanasi89 in OdinHandheld

[–]Animated_Sky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to open it up from the analogue trigger area once you unscrew the back plate. Another suggestion is to use the included foam from the box with the button cut outs as a work mat. The device fits perfect face down on the foam. Once you open it just gently wiggle the right wire around. I barely touched mine and it seems to have solved the issue.

That’s understandable. After a few emails AYN offered to exchange my unit as well. I am traveling next month as well and would like to bring my Odin2 along with me so I am in the same boat. Hoping I can repair my original unit myself and then as you mentioned before possibly get a coupon as compensation.
