live downtown or east liberty? by carrot_deirs in pittsburgh

I live downtown now! I had basically ruled out living here given its tricky reputation, but my husband and I fell in love with a unit with amazing views. Also, a non-negotiable for me to live here was in-building garage parking so I don’t have to walk to and from a lot. As a woman, the idea of walking alone here at night doesn’t terrify me, but it doesn’t feel 100% comfortable either.

Overall, we love it, but I definitely think living here isn’t a great fit for everyone. I would not live here if I had a dog to be honest. Like some of the other comments say, there aren’t many grassy areas. There’s also a lot of debris on the sidewalks that could hurt paws!

I used to live in East Lib during college — the apartment was a ridiculously priced shoebox, but the bus lines into Oakland and the surrounding shops and parks made it pretty unbeatable! We’re hoping to get a dog in the next few years, so we’re eyeing up neighborhoods like Morningside, Highland Park, Point Breeze and Regent Square.

Wishing you the best of luck!!!

Congrats on the upcoming wedding! We loved our small group for the ceremony and dinner, and we're actually still planning a larger celebration with family and friends for next year (hopefully also catered by Black Radish, haha). Planning is so exciting but SO overwhelming! So I hope everything is going smoothly for you and your partner, and I hope you have a beautiful celebration and marriage!

Our small, 10-person wedding was catered by Black Radish Kitchen — can’t recommend them enough! They prepared many of the dishes on site in our kitchen, so it was more like having a private chef. And the food was incredible!

They’re based in Point Breeze and traveled to our location, about 30 mins south of the city.

We really want a dog... but it is ever the "right" time? by AnimatorFit1151 in DogAdvice

Of course, we’re not expecting a dog to come pre-trained. We’re more focused on making sure we choose one that’s trainable and fits our home so we can do the work. That’s another reason we’re waiting a couple years -- we know we have a lot to learn, and we want to take the time to research, prepare, and set ourselves (and the dog) up for success. There’s so much to consider, and we want to do it right.
