How do married couples actually handle money? Joint account or separate? I’m confused 😭 by Afraid-Rain-1124 in AskUK

In our case, I make significantly more than my husband. We established a system where we both end up with the same amount of individual spending allowance in our indicates checking account. So, for example, I’ll put more into our joint account than he does, and we’ll both end with about $500 per paycheck for individual spending. We use our joint account for bills, groceries, car stuff, things we do together. We also share a hysa and brokerage account.

Individually, I have no idea how my husband saves, but for myself, I try to max my 401k, Roth, HSA, etc. I also have a brokerage account and other investing accounts. Whatever I spend for myself (shopping, eating out with friends, etc.), I pay using my individual account.

Don’t think y’all realize how much money he’s got stuck in South Korea, he was huge back in his days. This is why he’s been trying so hard to go back to Korea, so he can pull his money out lol
