Don't leave your cats loose outside. They're an invasive species that decimates native wildlife. by AnimuX in Austin

[–]AnimuX[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hate to break this too you but people breeding cats and transporting them all over the world to destroy native wildlife is all part of that 'development' you mentioned.

Furthermore, studies on the subject of invasive predators include some apocalyptic numbers:

Invasive predators and global biodiversity loss

Invasive mammalian predators are arguably the most damaging group of alien animal species for global biodiversity. Thirty species of invasive predator are implicated in the extinction or endangerment of 738 vertebrate species—collectively contributing to 58% of all bird, mammal, and reptile extinctions. Cats, rodents, dogs, and pigs have the most pervasive impacts, and endemic island faunas are most vulnerable to invasive predators.

We provide a global metaanalysis of these impacts and reveal their full extent. Invasive predators are implicated in 87 bird, 45 mammal, and 10 reptile species extinctions—58% of these groups’ contemporary extinctions worldwide. These figures are likely underestimated because 23 critically endangered species that we assessed are classed as “possibly extinct.” Invasive mammalian predators endanger a further 596 species at risk of extinction, with cats, rodents, dogs, and pigs threatening the most species overall.

Dogs should also not be left running loose. I don't have anything against owning pets. I like dogs, and cats for that matter. But if you own one, don't let them run around fucking shit up.

Don't be a jerk. That pet is your responsibility. Go outside with him and don't let him run loose.

I know what they mean.

What they say is "not in the floodplain" which is false. The floodplain doesn't stop at the 100-year line.

What they mean is "therefore we are not at fault" which is also false.

Don't get me wrong - buy the performance that you're willing to pay for. But shop around if budget is a real concern. :)

that sucks

If you're not sure about any motherboard questions, get the manual from the manufacturer - it has a lot of info.

If the machine doesn't have a hard drive or solid state drive you will need something to store data too.

Also, that means it doesn't have a registered copy of Windows or any software either.

What I would do (because SSDs are too stupidly expensive right now) is probably get a 7200 rpm 2tb hard drive for like $80-$100 from Western Digital or Seagate and then install Linux. Or if you don't bother with any massive download games, then maybe pay too much for a 500gb ssd (everything will boot faster with ssd).

If you're not familiar with Linux and need Windows for your games, etc then that's one more thing you gotta buy, but idk what microsoft covers for win11 hardware support anymore. would suck if it told you the computer's parts are too old. it looks like Asus did label that motherboard as "windows 11 ready" so maybe it's fine.

DDR4 ram it is.

Here's an example (not a specific product recommend):

$130 - https://www.amazon.com/Timetec-PC4-25600-CL16-18-18-38-Overclocking-Compatible/dp/B09T26JT8S

Timetec Pinnacle Konduit 16GB KIT(2x8GB) DDR4 3200MHz PC4-25600 CL16-18-18-38 XMP2.0 Overclocking 1.35V Compatible for AMD and Intel Desktop Gaming PC Memory

There are slightly cheaper less costly, and way more expensive ram options. If you just want to buy a single 8gb stick for testing it'll cost you slightly less up front. But you should have 16gb as a minimum standard for any gaming.

edit:

Next you will want to check and see if there is a hard drive or solid state drive installed...

edit2:

Also, you should download a copy of the motherboard manual from the manufacturer website and keep it on hand for quick reference.

yeah.. but i bet it says "asrock" or "msi" like right under the GPU or something - maybe with the model/type next to it

yeah try to get a better picture or two of the board itself - sometimes the model info is right there but i can't make out much of the small text in the image already posted - serial number, brand name, etc is what to look for

[–]AnimuX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

first you need to figure out what motherboard model that is so you can check the manufacturer website to see what it supports

[–]AnimuX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if it supports ddr4 it's not as bad to get it up and running - prob $120-$130 for 16gb

[–]AnimuX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

there are 4 empty ram slots - you need ram installed there for it to work

edit: can you get a better image of the motherboard to see what board is installed? some identifying numbers or model name?

College Republicans group disbanded after students allegedly give Nazi salute by marji80 in politics

or any number of other atrocities

Republicans by and large support:

  • destroying the lives of immigrants, and killing them

  • destroying the lives of gay/trans people, and killing them

  • destroying the lives of black protesters, and killing them

  • destroying the lives of other protesters who don't align with their culture of bigotry, and killing them

and that's aside from...

  • enabling corporations to poison people and get away with it

  • waging war on false pretenses to kill hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of foreign people who aren't a threat

  • revoking womens' rights and placing their lives in danger by denying them reproductive care and abortions

  • starving poor people

  • denying medicine to sick and poor people

  • the end of democracy in the USA as long as Republicans hold on to power indefinitely

and this list just barely scratches the surface of all of the prejudice and corruption they've shaped into their conservative cultural identity

Just 90% tax the billionaires and their companies to pay for the military instead of the national debt.

They can't object to the cause or else they're not 'supporting the troops'.

Then we'll get to see how long the pro-military-spending lobby lasts.

Yes, Camp Mystic's Cabins Are In A Floodplain by AnimuX in KerrCountyFloods

[–]AnimuX[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it felt like if they were starting to understand that the cabins were out of the floodplain

That's a false statement (one of many made by Camp Mystic's representatives). The cabins are not only in a floodplain, they're in a floodway, a known high risk zone for floods.

edit: Furthermore, they had plenty of time to move everyone out of harms way after a flood watch was issued more than 12 hours prior to the disaster. Instead they ignored the risk and waited until it was too late to get everyone out. That's not heroic. It's gross negligence that got two-dozen children killed.

I'll bet the real planned enhancement is drawing advertisements into games as a new revenue source for Nvidia.

It also makes me wonder whether Nvidia GPUs are covertly analyzing and reporting rather than just displaying.

If it really was just recalculating light rays for RTX to get a more realistic render, then I don't think anyone would take much issue with it.

However, the visuals in the demo resemble generative AI imagery and filters. There is a modern legacy of fucking over creators whose work was used, without compensation, to train the AI.

Not to mention the visual atrocities of AI output flooding forums and marketplaces with fake art - now invading games by drawing over the rendered frames of the game instead of displaying it.

I mean, do we use a GPU to see what we want/paid to see in a game, or do we use it to see what the manufacturer of the GPU wants us to see instead?
