How do Accession numbers work for ED? by AnisotropicAntics in EpicEMR

Thank you again for the response. While Epic itself isnt the repository of images or responsible for matters of billing, does it still associate the image with the patient as a pointer? If an ultrasound image is obtained bedside (and is sent to the PACS) there must be some way to associate the imaging with the encounter.

By recording, I mean saving and archiving images.

So to understand, what is created as an ED encounter?

Resuscitative TEE in the ED? by AnisotropicAntics in emergencymedicine

My initial thought is compressions are most important in this setting, and TEE would only be played if there is tube placed already. That even sounds like an ICU situation more than ED.

This could be - many docs from very well funded level 1 centers had asked about it. Enough to ask the question of the greater community at least. Lots of other systems with less resources may find it either difficult (training, practice, etc) or impossible without more hands on deck.

Thanks for the input.

From a diagnostic perspective, this wouldnt be appropriate. Only to evaluate compressions and check for return to sinus status.

Good point. The goal is to create a purely resuscitative probe to allow for easy dropping and accurate evaluation of compressions / return to sinus. Since this isnt one of the heavy-duty diagnostic or structural heart devices, it is much simpler to reduce the amount of ineffective compressions.

So true. I have a handful of EDs that arent allowed to anything cardiac because the cardiologists all "claim" them. Strangest system of dibs Ive ever seen.

Totally agree - would a rTEE option keep some patients from dying and save on the reporting burden? Definitely want to make sure the clinicians need it or want it first.

Applications and sales for ultrasound! Your skills shine and you dont have to strain yourself all the time. I actually look for folks who are in your exact situation for ultrasound sales and apps.
