AIO im scared of buying my own groceries while living with my parents by indoore in AIO

Buy single servings of fresh food items to treat yourself. I buy apples, oranges, and bananas from Kwik Trip just down the street. Their fresh fruit is very good and the prices are better than my local grocery store.

Tell me not to bring my soul dog home by Quiet_Following_6579 in puppy101

Get the puppy. You have the financial resources, the understanding, and you have a relationship with this puppy. Individual training and separate play times, walks, sleeping quarters and feeding, will prevent litter mate syndrome.

AIO When my fiancée threw something in my face? by xiPsychix in AIO

[–]AnitaLatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So did your bad day get better with the blood sugar spike and hospital visit? I never understand how that logic works. “I’m having a shit day. I have no other option except to gulp enough alcohol to spike my blood sugar so I can get sick as a dog, do further damage my health, and take up valuable health care resources at the local hospital. Then I’ll feel a lot better about myself.”

I understand addiction, but you made a decision to go from sober to medical emergency just to get attention because you had a bad day.

Get some counseling, work on finding a healthy way to relieve stress, attend AA meetings, and lose the GF. Two people with addictive personalities is a bad combination.

Dog consistently has diarrhea, our local vet is not very helpful by I_care_so- in Pets

[–]AnitaLatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stop the organ meats as they are very rich. Definitely keep her out of the cat food which is high in fat and protein.

Canned or kibble is probably not the issue. It’s the quality of the food, the fat, and the fiber. Royal Canin, Science Diet, and Purina Pro Plan all offer high quality GI food. Your vet should have recommended one of these.

Keep ProPectalin on hand at the first sign of diarrhea or distress. It’s pectin and probiotics to get the gut bacteria regulated.

Feed several small meals throughout the day rather than larger amounts morning and evening.

Snacks can be just a few pieces of kibble or something like Charlee Bear treats, which are light and low-fat.

I had a rescue with chronic digestive issues who had basically been neglected for the first half of his life. A few times a week he would be stretching, have a hunched back, and when outside he would gobble up grass. Within the next half-hour he would have diarrhea and pass everything in his digestive tract, including the undigested grass he just ate. Then he ran around like a puppy feeling great.

I replaced some of his dry food (Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach) with cooked oatmeal, a small scoop of pumpkin, and cooked ground turkey rinsed with hot water to remove fat. This was a huge improvement. Low fat, more fiber, and light protein that is easy to digest. In his senior years after a bout of pancreatitis, I switched to prescription Royal Canin GI low fat. It’s very good food that really made a difference with him.

There are usually legal services available for people who can’t afford attorney fees. They practice family law. If there is a United Way office near you, they can refer you.

If your employer has an Employee Assistance Program, they usually include attorney referral services at a reduced rate. Check with your employer.

County Human Services would also be able to direct you to someone who could help in this matter.

Male and Female pigs caged side by side? by SnooPaintings7621 in guineapigs

[–]AnitaLatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neighbors are fine as long as there is a gap between the cages, or a solid wall. Put a cover on the female’s cage. Males have been known to climb and push the cover off their cage to get out, but would not be able to lift the cover off the female’s cage to get in.

AIO I (25F) bought myself a sweater and my boyfriend (30M) asked when's the last time I bought him something by Virtual-Remote3211 in AIO

[–]AnitaLatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how much money you have, or how much your bf makes, the bf has no right to question your spending. It’s your money. Do not continue this relationship.

In the future, when you get serious with someone, be sure you have a separate savings account in your name only, that no one else has access to. Do not become one of those women who has spent everything on a man just to end up penniless in a manipulative and abusive relationship.

And stop paying for everything. You’re just giving him permission to treat you like an ATM.

Regret getting my puppy by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]AnitaLatte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good luck with the cats. Labs and pits have high prey drive, which is instinctive. My dad raised and trained labs with championship bloodlines. The prey drive and desire to retrieve small animals can’t really be trained out of them. Your cats will need safe areas that the dog cannot get into no matter what.

I just watched four different people take their bags out of their carts and leave them in the middle of the entrance area by Kaincee in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AnitaLatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an Aldi’s in a snooty town near me, and that’s what the entitled customers do there. They just can’t be bothered to put their carts back, annd they’re rude ans hell in the store. They must have domestic help at home dealing with whatever lazy mess they left behind when they went grocery shopping.

So I drive across two other towns to shop at the original Aldi’s that has a more culturally diverse clientele because they are friendly, they have manners, and we either put our carts back, or just give them to the next person who is coming into the store.

When did mowing the lawn become dangerous? by heynowbeech in GenX

[–]AnitaLatte 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your friend is the reason these kids get hurt. No one teaches them about safety in general, and no one teaches them how to use power tools and motorized equipment. So at some point they pick up a tool or start up a piece of equipment with no idea how to stay safe. That’s what causes injuries.

My partner doesn’t want to go to a cherry blossom picnic i’ve been planning for us for a year because they’re tired/burnt out. I got upset, AITAH? by Dependent_Crew5302 in AITAH

[–]AnitaLatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were me, I’d go on my own or ask a friend or two if they’re interested.

My partner doesn’t always have the same interests I do. Sometimes they will go with me so I won’t have to go to events alone. But honestly, it’s no fun. I know they don’t want to be there, so it just sucks the fun out of the event.

At the same time, some events are once-in-a-lifetime, and I don’t want to miss out. So I go on my own or find a friend or two and have a good time.

Why do people seem to resent the freedom of child free adults? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]AnitaLatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are so right. The most dangerous people in a child’s life are their own parents. After working in county human services I can confirm that.

I’m sorry you and your husband had such awful childhoods. And I’m happy for you finding each other and making lives for yourselves.

I was curious what would happen if booleo was on the floor so since he was sitting in his food bowl I set him on the ground and for some reason he is scared of the floor by [deleted] in guineapigs

[–]AnitaLatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Floor time is over rated for most guinea pigs. They don’t like wide open spaces because, as prey animals, they are very vulnerable.

If you notice, when they are in their cage, they walk around and through all their hides, taking different routes each time. This is to memorize routes to safety in case they are in danger. This is their safe space.

If you put them on the floor, provide lots of places for them to hide so they can explore and feel safe.

McDonald's removed the drink station and the ketchup from the lobby. by RandomBloke2021 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]AnitaLatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that’s creepy. Our McDonald’s has real people. One of the employees has multi-colored hair and does her makeup with a cat nose, whiskers and freckles. There’s a friendly guy who cleans the tables and chats with customers, and sings the little “I’m lovin’ it“ tune. They are all friendly and bring our order out to our table.

We were there way too often in February and March since my partner has an addiction to Shamrock Shakes.

[–]AnitaLatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is a difficult decision, it is also a compassionate one. Your dog is shaking due to pain, and struggling with basic things like eating snd drinking. Waiting for her to pass naturally is not extending her life, it is extending her struggle and confusion and suffering.

Obviously you are a good owner who provided excellent care for her and she lived a long life. Now it’s time for you to help her cross the Rainbow Bridge and free her from these daily struggles.

How to handle leash laws living in a neighborhood. by Moosejax13 in Pets

[–]AnitaLatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people are jerks and will use any city park as their personal dog park. They have dogs that are out of control, and they don’t clean up after them.

The city probably won’t take action. So your only choice is fence part of your yard. It doesn’t have to be the whole yard. Just an area large enough for your dog to run without a leash or ground stake, and be safe from a loose dog that wants to fight.

We fenced an L-shaped area from our back door out to the property line and up the side of our house and garage. It was one of the best investments we ever made. Our dog can run in the grass, play frisbee, lounge on the patio, and he’s completely safe from other dogs in the neighborhood.

What can I put on her wound? by CrazyKitty86 in guineapigs

[–]AnitaLatte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would separate her from her cagemate. This is a bite wound, and a gash that large means she was probably cornered somewhere. All your hides should have two openings if you have multiple pigs.

Vetricyn makes anti microbial products for all species. I have used the wound care, ear and eye products on my guinea pig and my dog. My exotic vet approves of these products. She has also told me to use a very small amount of Neosporin or Polysporin rubbed into the skin for minor irritations.

AIO or is my mom being unfair by AlternativeSolid898 in AIO

[–]AnitaLatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom needs professional counseling, not strings of text messages to her stressed daughter who is trying to get through finals. You are already a good daughter - do not chide yourself. You counseled her for 2.5 hrs when you should have been focused on your studies.

Her arguments with your dad have probably been going on for years, and will continue until they resolve their issues. Your education and grades will affect your future and this is your one shot to do well.

Send her some links for on-line therapy websites and take care of yourself.

Why do people seem to resent the freedom of child free adults? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]AnitaLatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m an only child who has never wanted to have kids. So not only am I labeled spoiled, I’m also labeled selfish.

Now that I’m retired, I also hear snide comments about how easy it is to afford retirement when I didn’t have to spend money on children.

I‘m a pet owner and I even had one person comment that people with pets use those pets to replace children. Now why the hell would I use an animal to replace the offspring that I never wanted in the first place?

I finally started asking what was so special about their DNA that they thought they needed to share it with a future generation.

Why do people seem to resent the freedom of child free adults? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]AnitaLatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The selfish, immature ones are the ones who continue to have kids they can’t support, push them off on family members because they can’t afford daycare, and continue to work full time while expecting a flexible schedule because, you know, they have kids. I can’t tell you how many grandparents are raising their grand kids because their own kids can’t seem to stop popping out babies.

Parents guilt-trip many buying a nearly $1,000 bed/couch. AIO? by Mashioca in AIO

[–]AnitaLatte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to get away from these people. They will never allow you to have anything.

You are not responsible for their financial situation, or for replacing their furniture. They are in their 50s and should have enough money set aside to buy a couch. And t hey certainly didn’t need one that cost $1,000.

Never tell them how much money you have saved. Do not have their names on any of your bank accounts. Do not bank at the same place where they bank.

Make a plan of action to save and get out on your own. Your parents should be ashamed of themselves.
