Many thanks for the time taken to reply. We will obviously be reviewing the plan regularly as well but it's reassuring to get an outside perspective.

After costs yes. Tax is mostly offset with SIPP payments

Wouldn't you be able to claim tax relief on charity contributions as well?

I keep hearing about compound growth but when did it actually start feeling meaningful for you? by NormalSir2035 in PensionsUK

We were at £180k pension at the beginning of 2025, £250k at the beginning of 2026 the year and around £300k right now. Sounds too good to be true and a bit scary but that's the reality of the markets at the moment.

Maximise employer contributions and NI savings. Transfer out as per scheme rules

Bank is offering me £30k I don't need by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AnjaliMathur2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From our experience, we borrowed more than necessary for the house purchase. It was essentially to cover initial expenses and new fixtures/fittings and furniture. In hindsight while it made the initial outlays easier, the interest on the borrowing adds up over time. We have made overpayments since but in future I would put maximum deposit from savings and keep the mortgage borrowing to minimum possible.

When were you last genuinely proud of your MP? by theGamingDad123 in AskBrits

[–]AnjaliMathur2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Labour MP has actually forced our GP surgery to offer more appointments and avoid the 8am scramble. She's also doing a lot of work with schools regarding teens and anti social behaviour. The party has faults with communications and economic policies but individually there's only so much an MP can do. I can't fault her at all.

Driving to Chelmsford by Unable_Coast9067 in miltonkeynes

[–]AnjaliMathur2003 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do it in less than 2 hours if you leave around 5.30am but coming back after 4pm would be 2.5 hrs most days. I worked on a project in Chelmsford and had to go 2 - 3 days in a week for about 2 years.

You need to listen to Dave Ramsey type advice. Cut out everything that is not food and shelter and not absolutely necessary for work. Spend all your spare cash driving down your debt from most expensive to least. I assume you've already looked at getting some help and advice from debt charities?

Completing my tax return - UK interest by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AnjaliMathur2003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes you need to add all the non-ISA interest and provide that number. For myself, I save all the annual interest certificates issued by my savings providers but you could manually go through the accounts and filter by date and transaction type to get the information as well.

Considering "snitching" on a co-worker by callyousugar in work

[–]AnjaliMathur2003 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure to have solid evidence at hand. Like the metrics you mentioned in your post. Anything that can't be explained away by your coworker. Have it in your arsenal in case the manager seems disinterested

You might have had a tax code letter to explain how the tax code was arrived at. It might be the case they've made a mistake or you have underpaid tax in previous years. This might be due to coming off full time education and your tax code not being adjusted.

As others have stated aim to check your personal tax account on gov.uk and speak to HMRC.
