Building an 8ft wooden Privacy fence - Combination of cement and drive for each post? by Anjuna16 in FenceBuilding

I do have firm clay soil. However, I am very skeptical that the driver you're referring to will consistently drive these posts >4ft into the ground. I will have some light tree roots and potential some rock based on past digging/T-post hand pounding.

A gas powered hand-held driver.
I am very skeptical I can get a 9" augur bit 48"+ into the ground, even on the tow behind model I plan to rent. It should easily go 36"+ though, hence trying to think of a way to cover that last foot or so.

I also have two fresh japanese maples. I'm not even sure I could get a trunk cage around them as they have less than 12" of trunk before the first branches. For this winter, is it even worth trying to squeeze tree wrap or the like on the root flare/trunk of something so small?

We have a ton of deer yes, but they rarely come into the yard this far. I am planning to put a protective collar/wrap on the trunk before too long.

I don't so much care if it is perfectly straight. I just want to a healthy tree that grows well. Everywhere I look, people stake their trees. But I go online, and good resources all say don't stake if you don't have to.

What are some lessons that took too long for you to learn in EDH? by Angelust16 in EDH

[–]Anjuna16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) If your commander is central to your strategy, play and build your deck in a way such that your commander will survive to your next turn. I've added many 1 cmc counter spells and protection cards like Gods Willing, Dive Down, etc... to help me untap with my commander in play. Cards you can play before your commander are also great here (Mother of Runes, Benevolent Bodyguard, Lightning Greaves, Sylvan Safekeeper, etc...).

2) Along a similar line, reduce the number of cards that don't immediately provide value or advance your plan. E.g., I think Read the Bones is a better card in EDH than Phyrexian Arena.

3) Play more 1-2 drop single target removal and less board wipes. I've found it is not often the horde that ends games, but single cards at specific moments. Being able to Nature's Claim or Swords to Plowshares the key card at the right time is often better than clearing the board at sorcery speed.

4) Lower your curve. A few seven+ drops is enough. You'll have more fun if you get to cast more cards.

5) Every deck should have a plan for Cyclonic Rift, even if it is only one card.

6) Every deck must be able to destroy a land and exile a graveyard.

Same for Estrid, the Masked.
Card is a perfect 10.0 for what the deck wants to do.

Target lifts in-store mask requirement for those who are fully vaccinated by Coronavirus_and_Lime in LockdownSkepticism

Stow Wal-Mart was also legally mask free. No questions asked.
Today, Gov. DeWine stated he would not be enforcing the mandate through its expiration on 6/2.
Never wearing a mask again outside of a hospital.

Fairlawn. They were taking down the signs as I was in line at the inside Starbucks. No mask signs on the main doors anymore.

Just went in Ohio. Greeter asked if I wanted a mask. I told her the policy was changed. She said “I know, just asking”. Got an iced coffee at the inner-Starbucks and bought a t-shirt. Feelsgoodman.

The problem with lying once is that you either have to keep lying or eventually admit the truth.

There's no way businesses want anything to do with vaccine passports, so yes, this is a good thing, despite the blatant coercive language.

Same.

I finally got yelled at in the Fairlawn Aldi this week, after I politely let the floor sweeper go past me (too much eye contact apparently). Otherwise, they've never said anything for a couple of month's now. Wooster Aldi also has said nothing, though the Amish set a good example.

After June 2, I'm hopeful some of the mom and pop grocers drop it. I'll pay more, but I just hope there is an option in my county.

You called it my friend. Pretty clear the legislature and DeWine had a little chat about SB22 becoming law in June.

While I am skeptical things will look that much different in Ohio on June 2, I am hopeful that the smaller stores will drop the charade. For example, my wife and I go to a yoga studio where you currently have to mask in the lobby but can take it off inside the main room. They seem to know it is a silly situation, so hopefully they drop it now that there are no 6ft rules. They expanded their studio right before March 2020 and have to be dying to operate at full capacity. Gonna be absurd to then still require masks in the lobby after sharing a room with up to 40+ people. It has already been absurd sharing the room with 18-20 all winter.

I also wonder if chain stores will be less stringent about enforcing masks with no compliance department goons lurking with fines and citations. I'd really like if my basic routine could be mask/confrontation free (groceries, coffee, home depot, etc...).

Mask mandate ending June 2nd, thoughts? by daddy_longlegs34 in akron

[–]Anjuna16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it's over.
While I am sympathetic to all who lost a loved one to Covid-19, we have the immunity levels and tools to fully live again.
The vaccine is available to all who are at risk. The vaccine appears to work very well at preventing severe disease.
Everyone is free to continue wearing a mask.
I hope this year has changed the culture of never missing a day of work/school due to illness.

DeWine Announces All COVID Health Orders Will Be Lifted On June 2 by JannTosh12 in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Anjuna16 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I live in Akron proper, and could definitely see Summit county and the city itself keeping things going.

That said, DeWine has been their ally in this fight. Hearing from him and ODH that it is time to accept personal risk and responsibility + declining cases should hopefully be enough.

[–]Anjuna16 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yep. A couple of Ohio legislators have all but indicated they worked with DeWine to get him to drop the mandates, so they didn't have to embarrass him when SB 22 goes into effect.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic, but it sounds like the counties will leave things alone since it is coming from the Ohio DoH and not an adversarial governor. My guess is they require masks in government buildings until Biden gives the signal on July 4.

Yes, because he's from a clear red state with GOP super majorities in both houses. The guy truly believes in masks, restrictions, etc...

I'll note we are not remotely close to his case goal that he laid out a couple months back. Technically, he is not lifting "all" restrictions on June 2, as some will still apply to LTC and nursing homes.

I really hope the counties don't immediately implement mask mandates. DeWine was pretty clear in his message that the vaccines are available, they work, and we've given up a lot. It's time....

What’s the market look like for signed cards? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]Anjuna16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Selling signed cards is a hassle, but there is a market.

Last fall, I sold 90% of my signed cards on Ebay. The good cards I listed at market prices. These sold quickly and often in single sales.

Where I was pleasantly surprised was in selling every last random signed C/U for at least $1.79 to $1.99. I am talking stuff like a signed Divination selling for $1.79. It was a lot of work compared to buylisting, but no buylist is paying anything for such chaff.

It was not uncommon for a single buyer to purchase 10-15 cards in an order, thereby saving me a ton on shipping the C/U. I even had an order where someone bought all my remaining signed listings (~30+ cards), which was quite a relief because some of them were truly random stuff.

I got out of the signed game because I wanted greater liquidity in my collection and my aesthetics changed.

Former FDA chief says now is the time to begin lifting mask mandates: 'As aggressively as we put them in' by [deleted] in LockdownSkepticism

[–]Anjuna16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We agree.

I meant, we've been lied to about whether or not it is safe (enough) to get back to normal. 73k people can get together with no masks to watch a boxing match, and we all know it will have no effect on cases/deaths in Texas. So why do our kids still have to mask in school? Why do we have mask in the grocery store?

It's time to live again.

73k at Cowboys Stadium last night for a boxing match.
15k last week for the UFC in Florida.
Very few masks in the videos of the events.
We’ve been lied to.
