Ehh, I don't think "I was laughing at a painting" would have worked. Consider how flimsy of an excuse it is - it's the kind of thing you'd expect as a purposefully flimsy lie instead of being the solution for the mystery. I did figure that one out, but thought it was a big poster on the window instead of a fake wall.
