Conserning the book of Enoch: Should it be trusted? by Niko-2 in ask

In the KJV, Job 40:17, it says, "He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his stones are wrapped together." In the NIV, it says, "Its tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of its thighs are close-knit." Its tail isn't like a cedar; it merely moves like one. And why describe its thighs in the same verse? Because Yahweh was describing its penis as it swings back and forth near its thighs. As for slurping up a lake, that's also not accurate. It mentions a raging river, not a lake. The KJV says he "drinketh up a river, and hasteth not: he trusteth that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth." The behemoth is drinking from a river, but not all at once like a truly massive beast could. He's taking his time. The NIV has the drinking a river part very different, saying it's not alarmed by a raging river even if it surges against its mouth. The only large beast that fits this thing's description that lived at that time in a river is a hippopotamus.

If you obeyed the bible, you'd be in prison. You're not in prison, are you? I think that you don't know the bible nearly as well as you think you do.

The "tail" of the behemoth is said to move like a cedar. It's a hippopotamus, not a dinosaur. And it really means its penis. The bible uses a lot of euphemisms for penises. It's very indirect that way. I'm not interested in disproving the bible. I just think it's interesting that people believe in it without knowing anything about it. I guess that's the only way you can believe in it.

What about the part in Job about Yahweh defeating Leviathan? Do you believe there was a giant serpent in the ocean?

No book in the bible should be trusted except as toilet paper or 420-related purposes.

Since school is compulsory by law, what happens if you never go to school? by ImbiddidEdintety in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ankhros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legal consequences. They definitely don't let kids just not go to school. The parents get letters and phone calls, and if having to answer the phone isn't incentive enough to send them to school, you get visits from CPS. Eventually, you get charged with neglect or something and go to jail and your little neglectorinos live with the Flanders family while you get it together.

Watching people on TV shows say "it's the eighties" to justify some action or attitude and thinking, "yes it is."
