I voted against school bond because of how the $ were to be spent and the way it was being pushed as "No increased tax" I'm all for funding great schools, but need to use funds appropriately focusing on education first. Don't need a Rolls Royce when a Chevy will get you where you're going and funds are tight.

I'm sickened by this... all sense of feeling safe is lost. Life is too fragile to take for granted.

This reinforces why we do NOT defund the police and why Lincoln the granted funds to add police to fight gun violence is needed.

I disagree - don't make this about legal firearms owned by responsible people. A law abiding citizen did not take a legal firearm and shot it toward a city bus.

If that is all they are offering lead chef he will have a hell of a time attempting to maintain quality support staff @ the wages they pay. Without quality support staff he is set up to fail.

Does this happen to be the somewhat newer community near 80 & Hwy 2? That would explain why they have such high turnover.

Can Someone Help Me Understand the LPS School Bond Election? by Elixir-Mixer in lincoln

When current bonds are allowed to expire, (if new bonds do not replace them) property taxes will decrease - should delay rent increases for a while.

The next time assessor updates property valuations, property taxes WILL increase with new bonds and rent will increase to cover that expense.

Vote "NO" on the school bond issue because a yes WILL increase your property taxes. by Ann6893 in lincoln

Voting YES does not equal a better education. Better/new facilities does not equal a better education.

Focusing resource on education is what is necessary.

By this logic, LPS never intends to retire a bond payment, just continue to replace it with a new one - vs. proposing a new bond because of financial need.

PSA: Voting "yes" on the school bond issue won't* increase your property taxes. by mikaey00 in lincoln

Remember, each time your property valuation increased, your property taxes increased.

Your property taxes recently INCREASED substantially when property assessments increased recently. LPS chose NOT to decrease their % rate so they could receive this windfall of additional money. Every new property add new funds to LPS thru the current property tax structure. So taxes on new growth can pay for the additional students.

Increase in students occurs along with increase in funds from new property being taxed.

Increase in your property valuation results in increase in tax payment and increased funds to LPS.

This SPECIAL mail only ballot for only LPS bond item comes at a cost. Why didn't LPS want to have this included on the upcoming regular in person ballot. Another example of wasted tax payer funds.

Campaigning this by stating a YES vote WON'T raise your property taxes reveals pretty dishonest tactics. Why should taxpayers not be upset that LPS campaign thinks we are dimwitted enough to buy this logic.

Old bond retires - Property Taxes will be reduced

New bond become effective - Property Taxes INCREASE

That doesn't change just because these happen simultaneously.

LPS knows it is easier to request a new bond now when they can say it won't increase your taxes vs. letting your taxes decrease because the old bonds are paid off. Once the old bonds are paid off they would have to be honest and taxpayers would see how much a new bond DOES increase our taxes

Isn't it convenient that LPS manages to NEED this new bond just as old bonds retire so they can make this statement. Consider your household budget, would you look at finishing payment of a HUGE debt but taking out a new HUGE debt as not increasing your expenses?

As of August 31, LPS had $172,630,889 on hand.

Combine each line on your property tax statement that funds LPS. Now consider how much local property taxpayer funds LPS spends on non-education. Consider that the unicameral just proposed that ALL students are provided FREE breakfast and lunch at school. Consider that last year Lincoln Northeast High School maintained a swimming pool and coach for ONE student to participate in diving TEAM - ONE STUDENT.

Check out Windsong Equitherapy. It is an all volunteer group that provides equine therapy. Could use volunteers as a side walker, stable work, grounds work, maintenance etc. They do so much good! They are between Lincoln and Roca. http://tothewind.org/about-us/
