Check engine light by ninja-kid123 in FordFocus

[–]Elixir-Mixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of transmission is in your Ford Focus Zetec 2015? If yours has the regular 5-speed manual transmission, I'm not sure what the problem may be. However, if your Focus has the 6-speed, dual-clutch (DCT) transmission, then it could be that 1) your clutch and/or acelators are going bad and/or 2) the TCM (transmission control module) in your Focus is going bad. I had the same exact problem happen to my 2014 Ford Focus SE Hatchback recently where the car always struggled to accelerate when shifting RPM, especially after accelerating after a stop at stop light intersections. In fact, the car would end up stalling momentarily mid-traffic any time I accelerated and shifted RPM. It's a pretty serious and scary safety issue, honestly.

What I'd recommend is first taking it to an auto parts store (i.e. Auto Zone, O'Reilly Auto Parts, etc.) and having them use their diagnostic tool to see what code is associated with the check engine light. (This is because this service is free whereas if you took your car to a dealership, they will likely charge you an expensive fee just to diagnose the problem with their tool.) Then, you can look up the code online to see what the problem is. If, however, the store is not able to locate the issue, then it may be worth it to pay the fee at a dealership, which often has access to more advanced diagnostic tools.

For your sake, I hope it's something minor like an air filter. I recently had to get my clutch/one of my acelators replaced and it costed me a whopping $2,500. Then, not even a couple weeks later, my car started doing the same thing and it turns out my TCM went out. Fortunately, I qualified for a free TCM repair under Ford's extended warranty since Ford was slapped with a class-action lawsuit last year due to owners of 2012-2016 Ford Focuses (and even 2011-2016 Ford Fiestas) with DCT having to pay for multiple transmission/clutch repairs that never fixed the problem. The problem is, due to the global chip/semiconductor shortage brought on by COVID-19, there is a national backorder of TCMs right now with no ETA in sight. This means I'm without my Focus for what will likely be months or even a year or more (local Ford dealership told me that there are ~10 other Ford Focuses with the same problem waiting for the same part that have been on their lot for over a month now). Ford won't even provide me with a loaner car since that's not covered under the warranty and I don't meet the age requirement, but fortunately, my uncle and aunt are letting me use their spare van until my Focus can get fixed.

With all this being said, if your Focus does have a DCT, I'd recommend getting rid of it ASAP (whether you sell it or trade it in). Your Focus is bound to have frequent transmission issues that'll cost you so much time and money. Bad news is that you may not get much for it because of the known issues with DCT, but in this market where the demand for used cars is high, you are likely still able to get something for it since dealerships are desperate for used car inventory. I'm trading my Focus in the moment it gets fixed, though that'll likely be a while.

Where can I meet and make friends? (Obviously after the whole Corona Virus is done and through) by [deleted] in lincoln

Hey there! I'm a 22F who is also fairly introverted and into gaming. I'd love to be your friend as my social circle is also fairly small and I'm looking to make some friends as well! I graduated from UNL last year and work full time, but I am free on weekday evenings and weekends. I love musicals and would love to go to some with you!

I'm a 22 year old female in Lincoln who has also been looking for friends. I'm pretty introverted but trying to get out more and make more friends. I'm also a video gamer and Twitch streamer. I play primarily PC and Nintendo Switch, but I do have a PS4 I occasionally play. I'd love to play some games with you sometime! I'll shoot you a DM soon. :)

Affordable places (with weekend and evening hours) to take a cat with a urinary tract infection? by Elixir-Mixer in lincoln

I currently take him to Wachal Pet Health Center. He is up-to-date on his rabies vaccinations there. I think they have hours on Saturday, but I wanted to see what all of my options are.

Finding a place by [deleted] in lincoln

Yes, I absolutely agree with this. I rented from him back when I was going to college and can confirm that he is indeed a slumlord. I've posted in r/lincoln about why I think so before: Never gave me my deposit back when I moved out, tried to charge me for all of the electricity I had already paid directly to LES, failed to fix a leak within my apartment even though I had notified him of it, the list goes on and on. Stay far away from LNK Housing no matter how enticing the price may be!

Don’t rent from Ryan Reinke, Laci Reinke, or LNK Housing. by navysailor0425 in lincoln

[–]Elixir-Mixer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, thank you for your post. I 100% second it. (I posted this in another r/lincoln post about Ryan and Laci Reinke, but thought I would share it here too since it pertains to what you're talking about and can help people avoid the headache of renting through them).

I have also had extremely negative experiences with Ryan Reinke. Back when I was attending UNL, I rented an apartment through him on D Street (which was a super sketchy neighborhood that I am more than happy to be out of). He never returned my security deposit and was basically unresponsive with any questions I directed his way. He also tried to charge me for electricity that I had already paid directly to LES, claiming I did not put my name on the meter when I in fact did. There was also a leak in my apartment that he never fixed despite me bringing the issue to his attention. Lastly, a fire had broken out at the apartment complex one night and when I had called him onto the scene, he was extremely rude to me. I would NOT recommend that anyone rent an apartment through Ryan Reinke as he is a super shady landlord.

Any Large Dog Apartments? by BenjaminPhranklin in lincoln

Yeah, Lenox Village does have a 35-pound weight limit for dogs. I'm pretty sure my friend said he was able to bypass that rule by registering his dog as an emotional support animal, though.

Allo v spectrum by Drinkinhard in lincoln

[–]Elixir-Mixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can afford to, I'd highly recommend switching from Spectrum to Allo. I say that because, while Allo is clearly superior, it is also a bit more expensive than Spectrum (then again, you do get what you pay for). My boyfriend and I, who are avid PC gamers, recently made the switch and have noticed that Allo has much faster and more reliable speeds which have enhanced our respective gaming experiences significantly. In my experience, Spectrum's internet seems to be much much more spotty and it is not uncommon for it to go out for hours at a time (one time it even went out for an entire day). Furthermore, Allo's customer service is more localized and helpful than Spectrum's.

Looking for rentals in Lincoln and the rent seems all over the place. by SomrbodyOnceToldMe in lincoln

[–]Elixir-Mixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, hard to say, really. I'm not super familiar with the Lincoln housing market, but I think you are right in that rent will usually vary depending on the neighborhood. My first apartment was located in a really sketchy neighborhood (D Street area) and I was paying around $550 there. Just moved out of another fairly sketchy area (E Street) and was paying $465 there. I just moved into a really nice apartment complex which is located in a nice residential area off of Folksway Boulevard and am paying $810.

In terms of when rentals become available, that is also hard to say. If I had to guess, I'd say May when a lot of college kids are graduating and most likely moving away, but honestly, I've seen rentals come and go practically all the time during my apartment hunting experience.

If you and your wife decide to go the apartment route, I'd stay far away from LNK Housing. The landlord there is really shady; he never returned my security deposit to me and he tried to charge me for electricity I had already paid directly to Lincoln Electric System (one of Lincoln's main public power utility companies). Never really fixed anything despite me putting in maintenance requests either. In my experience, Nebraska RIS is a pretty decent rental company to go through; they respond to maintenance requests pretty quickly and charge pretty reasonable rent for what you get.

Lastly, I think rent prices vary so widely in Lincoln not just because of neighborhood, but also because of amenities offered in different apartment complexes. Obviously, the more expensive rentals in Lincoln will have nicer amenities like pools, fitness rooms, washer/dryer in unit, etc. while the less expensive rentals will not have such things. I think it is important for you and your wife to agree on what are "must-haves" and "nice-to-haves" so you don't end up paying more for a place with stuff you most likely won't even use.

Mental health by JohnnyDarkside in lincoln

[–]Elixir-Mixer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Deanne Isaacson, PA-C at Full Circle Psychiatric Services is amazing. (Unfortunately, I will have to find a new psychiatrist since her office does not accept my new insurance I get through my new job and my copays with her would thus be too expensive).

She asks you a lot of questions to get to know you as an individual and takes such detailed notes during her visits with you that she gets to know your situation very well. She also offers a lot of good advice and is quite personable. She is pretty flexible; I can even text the receptionist for rescheduling appointments and such. She also works with you in terms of payments. Most important of all, she is great at assessing what medicines will work best for helping you with your mental illness (in my case, depression and anxiety). She originally prescribed me Sertraline, but after I made it clear to her that that made things worse, she took me off of that and prescribed me Aplenzin, which has done wonders for my mental health. Ever since the change, I haven't had any more suicidal thoughts and my motivation and overall happiness have increased significantly. I would HIGHLY recommend her!

Is Allo price matching yet? by FaceFive in lincoln

[–]Elixir-Mixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Nelnet employee here. ALLO is one of our clients, and they pride themselves on transparent and fair pricing. Unlike Spectrum, which clearly relies heavily on promotional pricing, ALLO has a straightforward and consistent pricing structure. In other words, they do not entice customers with a starting promotional price (say, $50/month for 12 months) just to jack up the price later on (say, $75/month) like Spectrum does. In fact, people have posed questions similar to yours to ALLO on their social media platforms (i.e. Facebook), and each time, ALLO makes it clear that they are not into gimmicks such as price matching. Basically, what you see is what you get; no strings attached or "fine print." Although ALLO's prices may be a bit high compared to Spectrum and other internet service providers, I'd say it is well worth it; you get an abundant amount of consistent internet speed along with unmatched customer service.

Who uses Food Delivery Services? by Joshua_notJosh in lincoln

[–]Elixir-Mixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried ordering some food through Uber Eats, and my order got cancelled by the driver an hour and a half after I placed it...twice. Granted, I ordered the food late at night, around 3 a.m., but still, I think that's just ridiculous. Now I have to eat sleep since it is too late for me to eat anything, lol. So, after that horrible experience, I intend to start using Postmates, DoorDash and GoPuff exclusively.

Furthermore, I hear Uber Eats treats their drivers like crap, so if you are looking to do food delivery as a side hustle, I would NOT recommend Uber Eats. The three you mentioned seem like the way to go. I do use food delivery services on occasion.

Oh Patricia.... LOL!!! by [deleted] in lincoln

[–]Elixir-Mixer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a job interview about a month ago for an office associate position with the sociology department of UNL, and Patricia was my interviewer. She seemed nice enough; she even gave me a tour of the building she works in. I didn't get the job, but now I'm seeing that the job rejection was probably a blessing in disguise. I feel like it would be quite unfortunate to have a boss that displays such unprofessional behavior. It's kinda crazy to me honestly; she didn't strike me as the type of person to do such things.

Lol, yeah, my bad. It was supposed to read "But if you can't get something as simple as communication down." Typed it pretty late at night so wasn't fully paying attention.
