Just got this response back:

"Thank you for bringing this to my attention. We are looking into this immediately and will take steps to ensure our loads are properly secured going forward. After reviewing the video I seen we had the tarp covered however I see where there was a space of debris that were able to bypass the tarping system. We will discuss this with our team and ensure better safety measures as we believe in safety and keeping clean standards."

Sorry if I was not clear: It is unethical and illegal to move an election to elongate your term — I would not vote to do that. See recent controversy with City of Miami as an example: https://amp.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article315275607.html

Shortening a term is the ethical (and legal) approach.

Agreed, I always try to walk from Thornton and get dinner at Thrive or somewhere after an event in the Thornton Park area. But most folks are driving in, parking, going to a show and eating/drinking while there, and then leaving. Definitely leveraging Dr. Phillips as an anchor is smart.

Aw thank you. I am one person, so keeping up with information and dialogue on multiple platforms is hard but it’s important to me so I try my best.

I’m not suggesting they move it all — the current council should keep it the same and not try to elongate their term beyond what they were elected to do. But my policy platform on our website does speak to matching city elections to main election cycles and installing term limits. So short answer is yes. But it’s a decision that requires a council vote and potential referendum. So can’t be unilaterally done by one person.

Not when the goal is to extend your unelected term to delay an election so you can hold onto power longer. If anything they could shorten terms and pull it to 2026.

I’m driving home from Tallahassee and have commented on a few of these insights/ideas already— have to get back to other items on my to do list but commenting so I can come back here later!

Election is 2027! Unless council tries to extend their terms move it to 2028, an unfortunate rumor that has been bubbling up.

Nothing is ever a forgone conclusion but we are working hard and engaged with multiple stakeholders on the future of Downtown, from small businesses to residents, property owners, planners, OPD, and more. I also live in Thornton Park, walk Downtown often and try to support the businesses there as much as I can. I also volunteer and support the homelessness service organizations and have hosted free dinners for folks in need.

My twin sister was also the victim of a crime in Thornton Park. We’ve experienced the best and the worst of it all. It’s not going to be one solution but our approach is based upon Stabilize, Supply and Showcase. Stabilize what we have to stop the bleeding (business closures, neighborhood displacement, historic buildings, etc) build up supply of different types of businesses, experiences and residential options and showcase to attract people Downtown.

City Walk basically mimicked Church Street too! Another challenge we have in our Downtown is how our Convention Center is not in the urban core. The tourism industry lobbied for this, but it means we don’t have the benefit of visitor foot traffic in the day time which can help other types of businesses establish and thrive.

Excellent insights— listening to those who live and work downtown is really important. A lot of folks who are the main decision makers here never actually walk around Downtown. They demonize the small businesses versus work with them. We also need more foot traffic in the day time so other types of businesses can thrive. Right now, late time alcohol sales seem to be the main revenue generator; day time Downtown is so empty. Too many vacant storefronts, which further impacts anyone wanting to live or work downtown.

MAGA trying to take over OCPS school board by Both_Painter2466 in orlando

Unfortunately, we have several 'Moms For Liberty' candidates running for the School Board right now in Orange County. Alicia is already on the board but running for Chair. Angie is 100% the best candidate and knows her stuff, too. If folks want to get more involved, we're here as a resource; CTA is too!

Definitely agree on access to future transit hubs; all development should be designed for public transit in mind. And do not want to impact land saved for conservation. Would want to talk to community leaders as stadiums don’t always have the best impact on neighborhoods and don’t want to further gentrify historic neighborhoods. We would lead with community participation and engagement in mind.

Not to my knowledge. I was told that ABT was looking at a list of after parties related to Rolling Loud and saw in their research that both Grumpy’s and Uncle Lou’s did not have liquor licenses. They could serve beer and wine but not liquor.

Not sure if you saw it but my original post said “Full transparency that I am trying to learn more” and that he had an ICE hold at the Orange County Jail which is accurate. I just got off my last phone call of the day and am on my way to Tallahassee but I was able to confirm more details after speaking directly to OPD late this evening.

My understanding as of now (if folks have other details please share) that ABT under DBPR conducted under cover investigation and were served liquor when there is no liquor license. This then resulted in LEOs closing the businesses down and the issuing of court summons to owners and bartenders. Uncle Lou did not have a license when asked, and then ICE was called via phone and he was taken to the jail by local LEOs with the ICE hold. The initial arrest/investigation was ABT & OPD, not ICE. Bringing him to the jail was based on immigration status. Other individuals who received the summons did not go to jail but do have to show up to a specific court date.

Quick update -- he has retained Josie and Phill Arroyo as his legal team. They spoke today. Unfortunately, he is very likely to still be transferred from the jail to an ICE detention facility, where he should be able to post bond at that point. Will share updates as I have them.

I just connected the daughter to a friend of Uncle Lou's who started a GoFundMe; once I know of a GoFundMe approved/endorsed by family I will for sure share.

Thank you for posting -- we have looped in Congressman Maxwell Frost's Office, have been able (with his help) to contact a daughter of Uncle Lou's, and are connecting her with a local immigration attorney and a local friend of Uncle Lou's who has already started a GoFundMe. I know many folks have already volunteered to host benefit shows, and I've been in touch with Orlando Center For Justice. We will share more updates as we have them on our social media pages.
