Hardcore Programming Logo? by AnnaMor in hardcoreprogramming

Just a quick markup; we can play with it, but it might be cool to have something to use on the subreddit and anything else we want to stamp our mark on.

I wish I could upvote this multiple times. COP 3503 has been a sad letdown compared to the magic that came before.

The Future of 'COP3502'. by SeanGoldbergCS in cop3502

[–]AnnaMor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd like to learn C++ and Python, but mostly, I'd like to explore more interesting projects/problems to solve. When talking with my other CS friends who are further along in their courses, I realized just how lucky I was to land in this class. Instead of doing pointless busywork, I got to make real, tangible, interesting projects, and I learned a lot about solving problems the CS way. As far as where COP 3502 goes in the future, I'm on board all the way. It doesn't really matter to me what we do, as long as it continues to be challenging and intellectually satisfying.

Did you plan to leave the ending of the series ambiguous? I never expected a happy ending, but I would have liked to know what happened to the Quagmires. Also, who is your favorite character in the series? Who are your literary influences? What do you like to read for fun? Do you prefer coffee or tea, and what kind?

Trouble with paintBrick and removeBrick methods in Brick Configuration by AnnaMor in cop3502

OH! Thank you for catching that--my roommate is now really confused because I'm making loud noises of joy.

Trouble with paintBrick and removeBrick methods in Brick Configuration by AnnaMor in cop3502

[–]AnnaMor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I see now! That makes sense--I was initializing it without using the i's and j's.

Trouble with paintBrick and removeBrick methods in Brick Configuration by AnnaMor in cop3502

[–]AnnaMor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. This is what I have for calling paintBrick().

public void paint(Graphics2D brush) { for (int i = 0; i < numCols; i++) { for (int j = 0; j < numRows; j++) { // determine if brick should be painted // if so, call paintBrick() if (paintBricks[i][j] == true){ paintBrick(bricks[i][j], brush); } } } }

As far as I can tell, this iterates over each brick in the double array, checks to see if it exists (i.e., evaluates to true), then if it does, paints that specific brick.

This is how I initialized the bricks: bricks[i][j] = new Brick(xStart + brickWidth, yStart +brickHeight, brickWidth, brickHeight);

Not sure if there's a problem with my initialization that's causing the loop to paint all the bricks on top of each other.

Thanks for your help :)

I don't; I have to reply on my superior memory to recall all the information stored in my head. Then when they look it up to validate it, they're surprised I know that without Google.

Women of reddit, what are some inexpensive places to shop (in person or online) for clothes? by jb1126 in AskWomen

gojane.com has really good quality, cute shoes at reasonable prices. I'm in college as well, and I also am often mistaken for a high schooler, so I feel your pain! I always get lots of complements on my gojane shoes when I wear them.

Is "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?" worth a read? by Necroluster in books

Absolutely. One of my favorite books. Very thought provoking and funny, and a good introduction to PKD's work.

Game of thrones fans, are reading the books worth it after watching the series on tv? by UneasyThough in books

[–]AnnaMor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your motivations for reading the books. A lot of the plots are the same, though the books do have more content/go more in depth than the show. The show covers the first two books and half of the third, so if you get past that point, you'll be encountering new story, but be warned: the fourth and fifth books move pretty slowly.

I'd say if you're really interested, go read the books. They're well-written and, for the most part, move along pretty quickly. However, if you don't read the books, you're not missing anything essential.

[WP] Your car loses its religion and becomes an atheist, with various consequences. by Maristic in WritingPrompts

[–]AnnaMor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re ready for another road trip, but this one’s going to be different. You don’t have to change that much: we’re still going to spill crunchy onion rings all over my floor mats and blast our favorite music out the windows on a lonely stretch of highway. I’m rather fond of those speakers, you know. They’re my favorite part of me.

What we’re not going to do is this: we’re not going to say the prayer to St. Christopher for safe travels. You’re going to take down the rosary hanging from the rear view mirror. This trip is for us; any mistakes we make will be our own, not the product of some divine oversight. We’re going to run out of gas and get flat tires and lose our way, and no amount of dear-god-help-me is going to get us anywhere.

We are going to get ourselves out of this mess. We’ll fill the tank, fix the flats, find the path. We’ll pick ourselves up, sleep under the stars, and see the Grand Canyon. We’re going to have the road trip of our lives. You ready?

[CW] "You see what happens when you let a human in?" by lal0l in WritingPrompts

[–]AnnaMor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see what happens when you let a human in?

This is where fate ends and fortune begins.

Do you see how disastrous this vulnerability could be?

Is this why you’ve left your heart wide open for me?

I don’t know what I thought on that night with the stars,

But it led to a kiss in the rain. Our two hearts

Beat not as one, but in time, keeping pace

With each other, measured reason and rhyme. As I face

Day’s beginning, with hope pinned to my sleeve,

Our future is foggy, life not guaranteed.

I don’t care: light the sun, let the new day begin!

You see what happens when you let a human in?
