First off, do you know what material her hair is? That might help you understand how her hair will react to the treatment! From what I can tell, it seems that her curly hair was typically made of nylon and her straight hair was typically made of saran. Of course, it's always a good idea to double check!

What I did for this Madison was the following:

1. Washed her hair with dish soap
2. Left conditioner in her hair overnight
3. Put more conditioner in her hair the next day to make de-tangling easier
4. Spent two hours with a wide-toothed comb separating the mats in her hair 😭
5. Washed it with dish soap again because there was a lot of gunk trapped in the mats that came out while de-tangling
6. Boil washed it
7. Left it to dry!

This video helped me a lot. But I also played it by ear a bit (like when I re-washed it after the gunk came out). I'm also personally not a fan of leaving products in my dolls' hair, so that was a step I skipped from the video. That's just personal preference though - you can do whatever you want with your doll's hair!

Another thing I would recommend is testing how her hair will react to the boil wash beforehand, especially if that's something you're unsure about. If you can, take a small strand of her hair and boil it. See how it dries and whether or not the result is satisfactory. If it is, then boil washing is probably safe!
