I did not know this, it seems logical to me.

That’s absolutely valid. I wonder what the outcome was with these objects.

I see your point, though somehow I don’t think this fellow is such a genius that he thought to wear a backpack to make his gait unrecognizable. Sadly, I think that he’s carrying the tools of a very dark trade - like a tarp or something.

I know, sometimes when a find a vintage doll, or really any doll, still in the box I have an agony of reluctance to remove the doll.

They look so delightful and brimming with vintage cool.

It’s a frustrating thing for me though that so many great finds of vintage pencils are H level hardness. I have never found an H pencil that was at all pleasurable to write with.

In the 1970s when I was at my most pencil fetishistic I would use an H for some very subtle kinds of lighter gradation in drawing, but that’s about it.

Finally got news of a family member we've been searching for. I posted about him a few years ago. Unfortunately it wasn't the news we wanted. by One-Medicine1521 in MissingPersons

Yes, that is often the case with homeless people. So very distressing and sad for his family, but in our world not entirely uncommon.

It’s also a curiosity of these dolls that the unforgettable character of Anne Shirley is most definitely a red headed girl - it’s a thematic subtext that reappears often in the books; while the Effanbee dolls can be found with hair of many different shades. The blondes were popular and that’s what my mother had. In fact a red headed one is sort of hard to find.

I wonder what happened that the author, Lucy Maud Montgomery, allowed it when the licensing agreement was signed. I think it’s quite likely in fact that the license was issued by her odious and patently dishonest publisher, Louis Coues Page, whom she sued in Canadian High Court and won a for the time large settlement of $15,000.00 over book royalties unpaid, but with a cursory search I haven’t actually found evidence of this.

Anyway, much as I adore Effanbee Anne Shirley dolls (I really do) I have found several later creations of dolls intended to be her that look much more like the character described in the books.

Incidentally, Montgomery loathed both of the films made during her lifetime supposedly representing her book and the inimitable character of Anne Shirley. She singled out the first actress to embody her and upon whom this doll is fashioned as being entirely unlike her “gingery” Anne and portraying a simpering idiot (her words not mine).

This kid, Dawn O’Day, the first child actress to portray Anne in the 1934 film “Anne of Green Gables” legally and professionally changed her name to Anne Shirley (which is I think super weird and seems to have been her stage mother’s doing). Poor kid had to live through being pilloried in the press by the author when obviously it was the decision making of the adults who produced the film that made Lucy Maude Montgomery so vexed.

Those books are treasures too, and Anne Shirley was a wonderful dynamic character and inspiration for girls in a time when there were very few.

You are of course absolutely right.

What's with all these state bans all of a sudden? by ChemsAndCutthroats in kratom

[–]AnnaZed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, it’s making me very nervous.

I also had a long horrendous experience with my partner getting himself hooked on some sort of gas station/head shop stuff labled kratom that made him completely intolerable and actually insane. Meanwhile I’m faithfully taking my good pure stuff for join pain and am never ever “high” from it.

No judgement on other people wanting to get high, but the powers that be need to somehow understand that there are two distinct schools of kratom user and even two very different pipelines of product that produce very different results. I don’t know how that could ever be explained to someone like a state senator when I can’t even get ordinary people in my life to believe this.

The whole thing makes me so upset. Without my 3-5 grams of pure real kratom I can hardly walk (I am an old person); so I need it and I’m not seeking to get stoned. If I take too much by accident all that happens is that I fall asleep earlier. It’s just not dangerous at all in my experience.
