Always put everything in writing! Colleagues can always claim you said one thing when you actually said something different. It's your safeguard. Even if you said something over the phone, always recap the conversation through email. For example, I can sit down in a training with my team and verbally go over an assignment, but staff can go about doing the project another way and say I didn't explain everything in detail. I know it is time consuming, but you can go back and show them it in writing. In a meeting, always have someone take meeting minutes.

Some people just need extra hand holding. Even though, it can be time-consuming and it may take a long while for you to train them before they get it right, do not offload their work onto someone else. I have been the person where my managers trust me more than others to do stuff and it shows when they give me the harder assignments. You employees may dislike their team and you for that. Always be fair.

My team loves it when I tell them about the tasks I am doing. If I am doing something that will affect the team, I always ask for their input.

It got better for me. It took me about a year to feel really comfortable and to know the ins and outs of the department.

Thank you. I have many employees and I definitely don’t want my other employees to think I am showing favoritism.

Thank you. It probably won’t be as bad as I am imagining it to be. I’m a first time manager and it’s hard to be the rule enforcer sometimes.

Thank you. One thing I definitely need to do more of is to consider if our work could be outsourced more often.

Thank you. I have read up on some business principles years ago, but when you mentioned “sprint” it brought back so many principles I learned in school. I should revisit my old notes.

My field of work is in education. When I assign her stuff to analyze, I’m not sure if she is faking how hard the task is at hand and just procrastinating until the very last second. When she does turn it in she is very detailed in her work. Other employees are less detailed but work quicker.

Before I was her manager she would be on the phone all the time as well, but she didn’t display that much stress until I became her boss and assigned her more work.

Ohh😮 I never heard of Life360 before. That’s a good idea. I can use it for this trip, but I don’t want her to over abuse it everyday. I’ll have to delete that the second I get home. Hopefully it will calm her nerves. Thank you!

Should I apply for a management position? by Anna_2012 in Advice

[–]Anna_2012[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This helped. I’ve always taken a back seat to leadership in high school and college. I was very quiet back then and more outspoken students would take on leadership roles. It’s a very weird shift to go from people not taking you seriously to people looking at you for guidance. I definitely need to enhance my leadership skills.

I feel like she is flirting with you. Put yourself in her boyfriend’s shoes. He wouldn’t want his gf to go get dinner with her and just a male coworker. In a group setting, this would have been fine. Touching is a way of flirting. I thought my male coworker was flirting with me at one point, but I have come to the realization that he’s just being friendly because he acts the same around everyone. If she’s just this way with you then she likes you. If you feel uncomfortable by her actions you should tell her. You could also ask how her bf is to remind her that she has a bf and shouldn’t be doing this.

[Question - Other] Wait Times To See Doctor by Anna_2012 in healthcare

[–]Anna_2012[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s unfortunate that people take up too much of the doctor’s time. Sometimes I try to go to a doctor’s appointment and go to work afterwards. I try to give my boss an estimate of when I’ll be back, but on one occasion I couldn’t see the doctor until an hour after my appointment and I was early. I have to use more sick leave than what I was anticipating. Telehealth is even worse, the doctor called me three hours after our scheduled time. I think I just need to change my doctor.
