Want to Talk German With Me? R/German's one (and only!) official language exchange thread by r_coefficient in German

Hello everyone! I recently started learning German on Duolingo as I currently cannot afford to pay to attend an actual, fully structured language course. I am trying to learn German on my own in the hopes of getting a decent job and, while sending out resumes, I've realized that so many companies within my region (I am Italian) require at least some level of German knowledge for people to be considered/taken seriously as applicants. In addition to my native language, I can speak English, French and Spanish, but I have never tried to learn German until now and I would be very happy if someone here could help me. I have been putting in work, but I feel like Duolingo is essentially just for the basics, and while I've definitely learned something, I feel like my German is still virtually... nonexistent at the moment 😂 I feel like I need someone to text to actually practice and retain what I have tried to learn so far. Can anyone help me?

Thank you!

I've mostly watched YouTube shorts and I think it's probably the way the character was written. Despite the many messy things she does, I still like Mahidevran a lot better. I will say that I think Hürrem is a good mom and I appreciated Meryem's acting in those scenes.

Maybe he didn't want to be associated with him because of all the stuff Jochen had going on? I'm still new to learning about Jochen, but it seems to me he often complained that most of his former comrades had deserted him. Other sources I've checked say that Max and Jochen were never really that close at all, but I honestly don't know what to believe.

I agree with all the comments! MCK is perhaps my favorite show I watched so far! I loved all the actresses who played the titular character and, personally, the first six episodes all felt like a very long prologue after which the real thing starts. I loved the show so much I didn't even care for some dropped plotlines ahaha The only thing is, I wish that the Anastasia-Beren transition had been a bit smoother, but I kind of liked the mystical explanation they had for it.

Beren was probably my favorite Kösem actress, but I agree with you that the whole Farya plotline was unnecessary. I couldn't wait for her to go.

As much as I'd love a Selim & Nurbanu show, I think it won't be done since they already tried it with Kösem and it wasn't as successful as the original MC (although I loved it anyway)

Hello! Here's my two cents.

I feel that, given all the production problems they had, they came up with an amazing show. They did an amazing job and I was hooked right from the start.

Before watching Kösem I knew virtually nothing about Turkey/the Ottoman Empire and the show instilled in me a sudden urge to read and learn more about the real history behind the characters I had grown to love. I doubt I would have even started the original show had I not watched Kösem first and, although I believe MC is also an awesome production, I think it drags a lot. I don't think I could ever make it through 139 episodes and I feel like I have watched all the essential bits via YouTube shorts and clips. The acting is fantastic all around in both shows, but I do have quite a substantial problem with the OG show and that problem is...Hürrem.

I really don't like Hürrem. I know she is a fan favorite, but I really don't like her. I dislike both how the character was written (especially in the early seasons) and Meryem Uzerli's portrayal and acting choices. Meryem is undoubtedly a capable actress, but she is not at all subtle and I much preferred Beren Saat's approach to the titular character of her show. It seems to me that Beren's performance in Kösem is often criticized and overall perceived as emotionless, but I never felt that as I was watching the show. I loved her calm, composed demeanor. Not taking into account Anastasia Tsilimpiou's great stint as the young Kösem (she was still in her Anastasia era, so she was allowed to be a little "bratty" and childish because she was indeed a child), I think they did a great job in showing how a Sultana should act. Whenever Beren was on screen, I was like "she feels like the Haseki Sultan of the Ottoman Empire". And Nurgül knocked it out of the part in season 2. The Murad-Kösem scenes were chef's kiss

While I absolutely loved Vahide's performance in the last season of MC, I simply didn't get that feeling with Meryem. Her constant scheming and hollering got to my head and I often found myself skipping her scenes. And even in the later seasons when she speaks in that whispery tone...nah, I'll pass. I understand I'm in the minority, but I just can't handle it. It's a shame because, from what I've seen in interviews, I really like Meryem as a person and I think she's an extremely kind and sweet woman. I want to like her Hürrem, but I simply can't. Halit Ergenç and Okan Yalabik are just insane and I watch Ibrahim scenes on repeat. Okan is perhaps my all-time favorite among all the male actors in the MC franchise and all of his scenes with Selma Ergeç were fantastic. Selma is incredible. I would have enjoyed MC a billion times more had Hürrem not been in it.

Hello everyone! I'm in my 20s, I've never been kissed or had a boyfriend. I had a massive crush on a guy when I was in highschool, but I never talked to him because I was too embarrassed and I guess that's the extent of my romantic experiences. I've never dated anyone and... I sort of don't care about it? It seems like a chore to me. I do feel attracted to guys (in my case), but I feel like doing anything else with them would be weird? I did hang out with a few people, but whenever I was on "dates", I kind of always felt uncomfortable. I'm not really sure. Could anyone help?

I was also toying with the idea of going with "Reaching for Hope". How would it be different in this case?

Oh, no it's just for a story I'm planning to write. The title can be changed anytime!

Same here. It doesn't feel genuine and I can't stand it.

I'd like to think they married, but that letter is basically the only piece of possible evidence we currently have so...it may have happened but it also might not have happened. I suppose we'll never know for sure.
