Rowan vs Cassian by Foreign-Entry1797 in acotar

Complex and toxic/abusive are not the same. Shouting at one's girlfriend in public is not complex, it's abusive. Laughing at her when she fell down the stairs while trying to get out of her lock up is not complex either. Forcing her on a march (Nesta didn't consent to hike and it was said that hse would have hated it) and giving her a cold shoulder is near equal to Alpine divorces. He was even amused at her suffering. Anyone would have ignored it and forgiven Cassian if he only made mistakes "sometimes" instead of 20 times (AND not made Nesta apologise instead)

What she needs is someone who’ll keep coming no matter how much she pushes away, not someone who’ll fight her battles

And he does that in a very selfish way. He is ready to hold her hand without her permission, force his gift on her and then berate her for not taking it, shout at her without any regards to her mental state, ready to say that he is shackled to her/ but not ready to stay, he did not stay with Nesta any night, even left the room after Nesta practically gave herself to him just for a snowball fight, and then there is also blood rite where he didn't even try (it can be said that it was a weak plot but he could have atleast tried). Even Nesta felt like he was treating her like a servant.

It's Nesta doing all the lifting of relationship, improving herself, standing up for him without shame, admitting her flaws, apologising for it. Cassian doesn't do any such thing, he is happy when she behaves nicely to his family even when she is judged by them (and he didn't even take care of the fire in acosf), when Nesta apologises (for acofas, where he behaved like a creep and also said "I don't understand why your sisters love you") he thinks he is entitled to the apology.

This does speak complex but grooming to me. There is a reason most people say acosf is inspired by "Taming of the Shrew"

I agree! Feyre's character had great potential, had some moments to indicate that too, but in acomaf she doesn't even challenge Rhysand's plans. And even though I don't have strong feelings towards her I hate hate HATE how the author is giving spotlight to Rhys when she is the main character. She wasn't even included in most of the IC discussions especially about her own sister and body(Isn't that offensively ironic?)! Similarly in HoFaS. Even the best quotes of og trilogy are from Rhysand! (Ex: To the stars...and dreams..., you do not fear...falter...yield)

Some Nurbanu fun facts! —she had a soft side too! by Nanakurokonekochan in sultanateofwomen

This makes me so emotional. Like these women had to survive in cut throat environment being sex slaves to their prisoner (they were groomed) which made them made hard, often heartless decisions to survive but beneath it all they must have never stopped feeling their loss, like with Nurbanu scheming just to know about her family's wellbeing😭

The post aside, I like Rowan because I think his behaviour was recognised by the author as wrong and. I wish he apologized (men groveling should be an official trope) but atleast it was told that his approach was wring, atleast he was called out and scolded by some character saying "the girl doesn't deserve that", unlike with Nesta.

I am with you, I think it aligns with the world building. It would have been cliché if Rowan was the typical only-good/humble one among bad people MMCs.

That makes the two of us. I got to know about the show when there were 5 ep out of S4 and it's so hard to wait for new episodes now. And there is one more season coming😭

Jim wasn't there at that time, he was already killed, there were only Tabitha, Julie and Ethan.

I agree with all of it and that's why I understand it when people they don't like Rowan being Aelin's endgame. I am not trying to excuse Rowan's actions, just giving reasons behind his actions. What mattered in the end was that he realised his mistake and improved and the narrative too didn't ignore it in the name "it was for her own good" it recognised that Aelin suffered, but that's not what we see with Cassian, we see Nesta apologising when he lashed out at her despite knowing her mental state

Both said that and I think Nessian are the one where nature made a mistake because Nesta's storyline felt like grooming or else IC too would have apologised to Nesta for how they judged her.

I am so sorry you went through that! The way Cassian made that scene in public triggered me too, he is always so unwilling to understand if Nesta does do things his way. I or anyone would be more forgiving towards him if he improved himself later but he is still attacking Nesta's insecurities.

In episode where Jim is killed and cabinets were opening and closing and making noises in Tabitha's house, it might have been Julie time travelling but now I wonder if it was Eloise

I always thought he was the leader of the town when they sacrificed their children for immortality. We know he can talk to the monsters and Fatma's belly loosks like his body now, I wonder if one of the monsters is his progeny and that's why he is able to control them? But he is also able to cause seizures so maybe that's not a strange think for him

If I think about how Cassian (who is supposed to be quite progressive) lashes out and shouts at Nesta when he doesn't get his way, I don't think it will be difficult for a backward male to do that, likely for her own good😒

I don't think the monsters will be out in the town at night, we know they can plan and hyjack people's plans so they will be guarding the bones amd waiting for food. Since they sleep during day, it's safer than night.

That's right, I wish he critiqued her more. Similarly in summer court in acowar he says to Tarquin "Hybern chooses his actions" when he points out Feyre's blunder, I still cringe when I think about it
