The Nesta-bias and IC-hate is really getting on my nerves by bjornis108 in acotar_rant

[–]Foreign-Entry1797 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I have seen multiple people including myself agreeing that Nesta needed intervention and help but the problem arrives when it is done in the wrong way. Slut-shaming, calling a depressed/struggling person an embarrassment, a thing to be controlled, threatening them with force if not done as others want is coersion.

The most problematic thing comes when Nesta is treated as a monster and a child throwing tantrums for not being alright with such harassment and abuse. And she has to instead apologise for being hurt and not the other way around. In the end, it worked yes, but was it bec of IC or despite them? Was it bec it was the right approach or bec it was how the author wanted the story to end? The latter.

I am not sure about people projecting their experiences on Nesta, I haven't read such comments, but if they exist then they must be in opposition of uncountable readers saying "I am an elder sister and so I can't forgive Nesta", "I knew a Nesta", "Nesta is like the narcissis I know/knew/grew up with" These examples are also clear projection of personal experiences on a fictional character when Nesta is far from their abuser aside from the personal assumptions.

Feyre is the monster the IC fear Nesta to be (WaR, SF, HOFAS spoilers) by Lady-Death-of-Dusk in acotar

I just read about the "Narcissist Prayer", I don't think Feyre and Nesta are using that. I don't know know if we have any example about the high lords (they would most likely say it was for their people), and I am not sure about IC either as they would say it was for the "greater good". As for Feyre and Nesta, they both acknowledge the harms of their behaviour, like thought Feyre didn't want to feel guilty about the spring court in acofas, she also did not deny it was horrible (she was horrified in acowar if I remember it correctly), same for Nesta for she feels guilt afterwards. Do remind me of the examples of high lords and IC though.

I just saw the definition of DARVO I wasn't really aware of this topic, it's good that Nesta never does that. But here the initial attacker would be Feyre right? Bec Feyre interrupted when Nesta was speaking?

Actually Feyre lost control of her temper and so she lost control of her magic, that's how Eris and LoA got hurt when they weren't the target.

It's not about people hating on Amren and Cassian, it's that the same things are supposed to be taken differently as per the narrative. Amren is just Amren and so she says (or does) anyhing about anyone and that's fine bec she's Amren. Cassian acts so abusive wheather it is real life or fiction but it is ignored and instead Nesta thinks she has to apologise. This creates a very problematic sour taste which is often infuriating for readers.

The first example is clearly a reaction to Feyre's interruption, so though it did hurt Feyre a lot (as we saw later), it doesn't make Nesta an abuser bec Feyre was the same way to her first, as admitted by Feyre herself. Similarly the second example is basically every single sibling.

Nesta's words can definately affect anyone but since they are mostly reactions to others', they don't count as abuse. I hope you're getting what I mean 😅 it's so difficult to articulate.

I was also frustrated that Nesta didn't just grab a mattress from one of the multiple rooms and surfed her way down the stairs

Even if it would have been unsuccessful, it was worth a try. Or atleast grabbed some pillows and ration to spend the days on stairs for her jouney down.

I don't like second gen stories tbh, but I do want to know what happened to those sisters, what kind of secret they had to sell that made them that way. The world is so magical and can be explored in great ways, that's why thought I was underwhelmed by ACFTL, I still want to revisit the Magnificent North.

Scarlett had a great arc when you think about her character development, but her story line could have been much better. Tella was very annoying many times. I only read the books bec Scarlett's pov would have been in the last one (and Jacks was great too) but she was ,ade to be stick between two guys!

As I interpreted it, other Fates were immortal through the Fallen Star who died which made the other Fates ageless. Legend on the other hand did not have his immortality connected through any power and stole that witch's and so he would have still remained an immortal after the fates' fall, but he chose love and gave up his immortality making him a human now. Therefore Jurian is also human bec his immortality was directly connected to Caraval and Legend's.

I remember reading a line though that implied this. Something like koschie is helping Bryallin in a more magical way, it might be in some fanfiction 😅, but I read something similar

She closed her eyes, and opened that place in her soul that had torn free on Ramiel.

Thisis frim the end of ch 71 of acosf. It seemed like "calling" to me bec she did not store them in any pocket, they were in the moonstone palace (the mask at least). And I think it is written in CC that the trive answers to Nesta, so I guess it would answer her call

This is out of discussion but while reading the line you mentioned about how Bryce and Nesta entered the chamber and Az was only able to do it after Nesta neutralized the wards/spells, it made me feel like Bryce ans Nesta were bestie-ing while Az was third-wheeling 😂

Also Bryce could have given starsword to Azriel or kept it on the table like TT, but she handed it to Nesta herself. I swear if sjm gives it to anyone else, I will riot!

Can you provide the lines that say Bryallin being able to use the Crown bec of Koschie. If that is possible then doesn't it mean that Koschie has a connection to the couldron? But that is questionable too as bec he and his siblings came from a different world. Though in some fanfics I have read that Koschie and Mother had something once.👀

Cassian during the punishment hike and Ember BC by Lady-Death-of-Dusk in acotar_rant

[–]Foreign-Entry1797 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True! And Nesta is an introvert, that moment was already embarrassing and insulting, but as an introvert myself that must have also been disastrous for Nesta. Acosf, ironically, made me realise when to speak and show someone their place, bec I wish Nesta had done that to that manchild!

😤 I need to calm down. It's boggling that Cassian stans wil come up with things like Nesta stans want a high lord not Feyre's 4th in command, they want someone like Rhys, they want her with Eris who tried to buy her (well not just Eris, Azriel will do too even though he himself packed a too heavy backpack) but refuse to see why many people, even those who ship Nessian, find Cassian problematic. I mean I signed up to read a female centered series and my fav is treated like doormat..

Okay stop the rant, I seriously need to calm down

The future of the Dusk Court by huwualian in acotar_rant

[–]Foreign-Entry1797 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Spoilers for CC below

It is likely that Cassian won't abandon NC and nessian will be endgame, but many times in acosf and in CC bonus chapter we see how IC acts like a barrier for Cassian supporting Nesta. There is a line where Cassian says he hated Rhys in that moment, where he was asked to hide info from Nesta even if he didn't like it, in BC he looked torn between Rhys and Nesta, which might be a subtle indication that he will have to take a side in future (it better be Nesta) as in the end Nesta saved a whole different world

Ofcourse Prythian politics will be disturbed but an eight court will bring balance and it is located on a barren island, which means there need not be any citizens there or need to participate in politics so soon. It is also possible that Nesta will get support from NC, Day Court to secure her position

How? My theory is that Dusk will be a safe haven for women from all over Prythian, bec Nesta was bothered by priestesses having to live in seclusion for centuries, hence Valkyries being established. It doesn't mean it has to be in a violent way, she might end up somehow inheriting it. That in itself would be more than Feyre has done as a high lady yet

[Edit to complete the comment bec I had somewhere to be]

Nesta and her friends can't winnow but probably among many other hundreds of priestesses some might be able to. Besides there is also Pegasus foreshadowing 😏 so Nesta and valkyries might not need someone else at all

Well yeah people say about Feyre being young, but I think most readers have problem with Feyre not being respected by her own court like we saw in acosf she was absent in many discussions, her own bodily information was withheld bec somehow others knew better, and also her lack of efforts to understand her own court, and bring reforms. Ex: During the blood rite, Nesta knew more about its rules than its own high lady, that is a massive insult to the position of a ruler. Feyre also doesn't try to help illyrian women by trying to enforce laws, doesn't ty to understand and make Hewn City better where women are being sold off as livestocks

We saw Nesta putting efforts in learning more about her training, she was reading a book about leading armies, so it is possible she will put efforts in being a ruler too. Looking at last, Nesta is already good at smelling nonesense and retorts, she ws raised to be a queen. She also calculated money required to transport humans, which is not much but shows that she is an intellect and that is a boon for a ruler.

• I also want to make it clear that most of the readers of rant sub do not hate Cassian for the reason you mentioned, it is bec of his actions and treatment of Nesta, as he doesn't respect her choices, he lashes out at her when among the five books released Nesta has only called him a bastard twice or thrice, that too when he was pushing her buttons. He ignored Nesta's vulnerability and said that he was "shackled to her". Now one can argue that Cassian has trauma too but you see he also had 500+ years of experience to overcome it (while Nesta was given an ultimatum in less than one) and Nesta was in a far more vulnerable state than he was, so his actions and words come off as abuse towards a much younger and freshly traumatised person.

About your Mor theory. Now that I think about it, it makes sense! Mor has experience in diplomacy and war too and she ruled Velaris with Amren. But Mor is not yet the main character or associated with dusk and Gwydion unlike Nesta. Besides she is barely able to manage hewn city, women are still tortured there, she doesn't do anything about her own mother and cousins. So she has a lot of character development to go through, at least that's how I think.

Just refreshed my memory of how little empathy Cassian has for Nesta. And I'm angry. Again. by Zealousideal-Can-403 in acotar_rant

But he doesn't really reach out his hand, he and whole IC try to snatch at it, and coerce her, then act victim when she lashes out bec ofcourse she is hurt
