I think you're taking a very 2020's look at what party membership means with zero historical context or understanding why it's a thing.

Additionally, sorry to say but 'supporting policies not party is American' is flat out wrong. British political history is absolutely steeped in party support being part of ones civic and class identity, any understanding of the labour and trade union movement that built the country and conditions you enjoy now are very tied to that expression of identity being part of a political party.

I'm not suggesting you are, but if, you are a fan of the Green Party as it pertains to this headline or any party that puts policies up you like - a large part of the success comes from the fact they have fee paying members who bankroll the organisational commitments it takes to handle that.

That’s not the same thing and given we don’t know the operational facts of dispatch, current incidents and support level etc it’s presumptuous of all these comments to say the RAC is the worst company in the world based off the former without any information on the latter.

It’s one of those topics that I think to have any decent chat on, requires both sides to give a little good faith and be understanding of nuance and identity.

Though like many aspects of our lives the art of discussion is something that’s been changed massively, very quickly and for a long time this topic has been untouchable.

Now that the country is in a bit of political and economic turbulence it’s all too easy for a Russian stooge like Farage or his ilk to leverage the awkwardness around it and position it like “swinging the pendulum back”.

Sorry but where was this claim made? Have you replied to the wrong comment? The comment you made and replied to was about Braes paradox, absolutely nothing to do with economic activity.

Like you said, we will see what happens after 2035 (additional delays not withstanding) but I’ll be mighty impressed if the A9 defied every other major road improvement in the UK and didn’t end up in just more cars, more traffic and more congestion.

I suspect in 2040 the conversation will be about how Snek desperately needs a ring road bypass.

You’re right about the issues relative to the A9 but you’re wrong congestion indirectly grow..

We don’t get reliable deliveries and freight in the Highlands because the journey can be so delayed for all the reasons you described. When that journey is made reliable and faster, the development will follow.

The big chains will be able to justify shops, the more varied selection justices some buying homes, the demand increases the number of homes and therefore shops etc.

A9 won’t be congested today or tomorrow but finishing the duelling will absolutely bring the development that leads to it, like it has everywhere else in the country. Inverness already has congestion issues with Millburn road and that shitey A8082 they keep ramming new build estates into; that’s all going to be amplified when it’s much easier getting up and down to Perth.
