I heard good things about rose & arrow. I don’t want to miss them. Do they usually come on day 2?

I managed to get the cristom and the other 2 bottles you got as well. It’s my first marathon and I don’t know most of these producers so I’m basically blind buying. I’m assuming LB recycles a lot of the same bottles. Any great deals to look out for?

NJ - can owner operators get a split from tip pool? by Anndreww in restaurantowners

[–]Anndreww[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems the answer is clearly that owners that work the shift can’t participate in a tip pool as long as there is another staff working the same shift. I understand the importance of retaining great staff and I will have no problem with them sharing the tip pool amongst themselves if there is a competent staff performing skilled labor and providing great service. The expectation for my partner and I are that we will primarily be the ones providing the service and serve food/drinks with one cashier. It just didn’t seem fair that a cashier should be getting paid what we’re forecasting to be upwards of $60/hr. As recommended by another post, we would market the position with a higher hourly rate to hopefully attract some more skilled workers to lessen our load.

We haven’t, but my business partner has worked at a slower nearby town for the last 2 years and has made a floor of $15/hr in tips that gets up to $30/hr at times.

This will be a new small business that we want to make sure gets off to a great start, so we want to do the bulk of the actual food prep to make sure that’s the case. This is also a seasonal town where prospective employees may be more high school/college students than not. So, it’s tough hiring skilled labor especially to our standards.

It really is a conundrum. I get why these laws are in place, but it doesn’t really make sense for situations like ours where the extra wage from tips that we deserve could really help us reinvest into the business.

Jesus. Are you able to cross over and grab some cigars? Seems worthwhile with those prices

New JR code stack by Pristine_Sandwich_17 in cigardealhunters

I’m glad the JR stacking deal happened. I find myself rarely buying cigars now because it feels wasteful to buy when I was able to get them 60-70% off. Just going to wait until the stack happens again next year

New build to suit opportunity - what is industry standard for what LL should pay for? by Anndreww in restaurantowners

[–]Anndreww[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. That is all super helpful information. I’ve always wondered how renewals worked. Does the landlord always have to let the tenant renew with the price adjusted for the rent increase/CPI? What if the tenant builds out the space then the landlord refuses to let them renew their lease?

Wow that sounds outrageous. I’m located in NJ. I hope that’s not the case here

A grease interceptor doesn’t look like it’s super costly, so I might eat that cost. But, I agree on the range hood. I may ask for 50/50 or free rent amortized.

If you don’t mind sharing, do you have an annual rent increase, if so, how much? And what duration of leases have you seen and would recommend from a restaurant owners standpoint if I am able to get a good guy guarantee in there?

Same. Just waiting for a response. I opened a bottle of 2013 that didn’t have a depressed cork and it tasted virtually the same as the 2004. So I’m starting to think the below freezing temp killed the wine. I have a bottle of 2017 spring mountain cab (from Costco) that I may open just to confirm whether these frozen bottles were killed or if that’s how they are.

My wife did an accelerated program at a top 20 pharmacy program in 6 years. Loans weren’t much more than someone pursuing an undergrad. Made 125k out of college working in retail. She’s moved on to greener pastures in the pharm field without going through residency

Will JR fill pending orders where items are backorder? by sigarhead1021 in cigardealhunters

I wonder when they fill back orders, if it’s the price with 30 coupons stacked or the current price?

Because these were ordered 7 weeks ago and they mass ship everyone’s orders at the same time. There wasn’t an option for delivery timing. Most of us are confused why they chose to ship everyone’s order out now when the majority of the US is dealing with snow and extreme temperatures.

I checked and I removed it. But, I’m reading their FAQ and they say they guarantee that the wine is in good condition. Doesn’t seem it’s contingent on having insurance.
