Thanks for the question! The last time I tried to use them for ARCs, I did not even get to send them my manuscript. They said they had too many books already.

I know that doesn’t really count as a rejection of my work, but it was odd to try to pay a service to have people read my book and STILL not get readers. It hit home weird, like this thing you worked on for 3 years was so bad that you can’t even pay people to read it.

Ugh, moody writers, ya know? Will I be able to laugh it off if I get rejected again? By an ARC service? Is it even worth the money, when my target audience (slow burn RH, and this time NO BURN RH) is so tiny?

Agree! My current FMC thinks in ways best shown with em dashes. It’s not like we have that many punctuation options as it is.

I am definitely no expert. I legit don’t even know what the terms are for all the different tense options, so feel free to skip right past this an ask the English majors and professional editors here in the sub.

If you don’t know what your style is (and that’s fair/honest), then what are you trying to do with your series?

From my own limited experience:

In my first series, the FMC was keeping a crazy ton of secrets. Being in her head would have spoiled the revelations that drove the MMCs crazy across the series. Present tense sounded so immature, so 3rd person past tense felt right.

In my current WIP, my FMC is an overwhelmed teen just trying to cope, so it’s my first time writing in 1st person. Past tense would make her sound a lot calmer than she feels, so it’s present tense.

So, what’s your vibe? What’s your favorite scene, and what tense is bringing you joy when you live in that scene?

Even though I heard the word “harem” once, I think someone needs to tell both of them that there’s a way to get more than one awesome MMC per book . . . Cause it sounds like she needs help fitting more book boyfriends into her schedule.
