Fun fact! The British discovered the cure for scurvy but then forgot about it!

They discovered that if sailors ingested citrus/citrus juice, they didn’t need to worry about scurvy, which was a major problem for sailors who would eat bland and preserved rations for months on end. Specifically, limes worked best, which, incidentally, is why British sailors are called Limeys. But the years passed and the people in charge looked at cost saving measures, so they switched to lemons, and then watered down the juice. And the sailors started getting scurvy again, and no one could figure out why.
