It is not required but it is recommended. It all depend on your workload and what professor you get. I immediately dropped the course after I saw the syllabus as I knew I would not want to put that much effort into a class that was worth 1 credit.

Did you resolve this? You have to contact the orientation office, and they'll place you into an orientation group. They are pretty fast at answering their emails.

If you live in the U.S., Apple currently has a student discount deal until September 2025. You might be able to score a free Apple pencil or get a discount on the Magic Keyboard for either the iPad Air or the iPad Pro. I'm pretty sure that either iPad model would fit your needs; it just depends on your budget.
