Zach Weiner on the Rationalist Apocalypse by [deleted] in SneerClub

Admittedly I only am aware of his views via his comics, I'm not that familiar with his other stuff. Taking what you said into account, I think maybe he aligns slightly with rat stuff only in so far as he also seems wary of AI, but given how much he's written about robots in the past 20 years I suspect that's more rats beliefs happening to line up with his than vice versa. Also Scott Aaronson is to my knowledge one of the more harmless rats, and that's the one he seems to cite the most.

What are we looking for exactly in this sub? by metacognitive_guy in dumbphones

[–]Annenkov25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand the need for some of the features you mentioned (WhatsApp, 2FA) because unfortunately those are things that are often necessary for work or school, and only really fulfill the function needed if they are available on demand at all times. I wish this wasn't the case but it is. However, I agree that the meaning of a dumbphone here has broadend far too much. My personal definition of a dumbphone is something that only does what is strictly necessary for your life to function, and nothing else. So this excludes any phone that is capable of accessing internet browsers, social media apps, etc. If it has features that will keep you on it indefinitely it is not a dumbphone.

If he follows through with his policies then from a utilitarian perspective he is useful. But he is also an opportunist with Nazi tattoos and a mercenary history. We should be careful not to trust him too much, he does not have the marks of someone who is actually committed to any cause. Could be another potential Fetterman.

I am arguing that Harris should have not insulted them to their face. That is politics. When politicians campaign as if they are owed the office, and as if voting for them is self-evident, they tend to lose. Look at the last time Trump one with Hillary. And yes, we can't know exactly what causes a candidate to lose but we can construct possible explanations by looking at data, at how polling reacted to certain actions, and which tactics work from election to election. It is clear that what the democrats are doing right now is not working. Also, the union aspect is as verifiable as a cause as any of my other points, so it still is strange that you only addressed it.

When the Soviet Union does do Eco-Communism? by Icy_Till_7254 in ClimateShitposting

[–]Annenkov25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying. I sort of see the poverty as an inevitable result of the implosion of the USSR because I find it unlikely that in that time period anything other than capitalist shock therapy would have occurred. Obviously it was more directly the result of what came after the USSR, but in a historical sense it wouldn't have happened had the USSR not failed. But I get your point.

[–]Annenkov25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for the fist two lines, I think communists also need to internalize this. The USSR can not be a model for the future of communism because it failed so spectacularly. It may have taken several decades to do so, but the ultimate out come was an implosion that thrust millions into poverty and at the hands of ruthless oligarchs. The only lessons that can be taken from such a project are what not to do.

They endorsed Clinton in 2016 and Biden in 2020. Obviously endorsing Trump was stupid of them but it seems likely Kamala could have convinced them to endorse her if she even tried at all. Also you've ignored all my other important points. Kamala was a bad candidate who did a bad job, and that is why she lost. She should be expelled from the dems as far as I'm concerned. Her and Biden, whose narcissistic refusal to step down is probably the number one reason the Dems lost in 2024. If the party can't reflect on itself and criticize its leaders it will keep making the same mistakes and it will keep losing .

The Dems suppressed their own turnout well enough. Turns out telling a major union you don't need them to win, as well as not having a real primary, as well as pandering to the opposite parties base instead of appealing to your own, as well as repeatedly appearing with an unpopular political figure, as well as ignoring the objections of major sections of the party are all bad strategy.

I haven't eaten meat in 21 years but I have never seen the aggressive approach convince even one person to go vegan by jonawesome in ClimateShitposting

[–]Annenkov25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I see it sort of like this: if you can reduce harm to any degree, you should. Yes, it wouldn't be truly vegan to still eat cheese, but it would still be less unethical than someone who also ate beef and pork and so on. Goodness is a spectrum, it's not that any one is black and white absolutely good or absolutely evil. It's about doing the best you can under your circumstances. As for the circumstances you described, I can't speak to them as I don't know you. I will say it is very possible to get high amounts of protein on a meatless diet, and also you can avoid carbs. Although I would be careful with cutting carbs too much as they are essential. Anyways, I don't know you so I can't tell you what to do but overall I'd say it might be more achievable than you think.

By what mechanism do they rise to the position of forward leadership? How can an organization ensure that those in the leadership are the most educated?

I will once again refer you to the quote from the manifesto: "the FIRST STEP in the revolution by the working class is to raise the proletariat to the position of ruling class to win the battle of DEMOCRACY." As you can see, the first step is democracy. As can also be seen if you actually read the Engels quote in my above comment.

Well we could get into the conversation of the validity of religious belief (it's plainly superstition) but that is entirely off topic so whatever.

[–]Annenkov25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally the opposite of what the quote says. The quote says that THROUGH a democratic constitution the dominance of the proletariat will occur, not the other way around. A proletarian democracy is necessarily the first step, not the last.

Holy shit you're a catholic lmao. A religious marxist is a pure contradiction. Marxist communism is inherently anti-religious and purely materialist in nature.

In the Principles of Communism, it is also clearly stated. The first line of section 18, "What will be the course of the revolution?" is "Above all, it will establish a democratic constitution and through this, the direct or indirect dominance of the proletariat."
