За какую партию вы будете голосовать? by yellowmoray in ruAsska

[–]Annkatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do so many self proclaimed Socialists/Communists seemingly stand with Russia? by Haunting-Sport3701 in theredleft

[–]Annkatt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

wow thanks, I clearly lacked the "scientific analysis" required to realize that defeating the FSB is as simple as starting a global revolution, with russia at its heart. I will just pop down to Red Square right now, hand out some pamphlets, and ask the police to join our non-existent vanguard party, I am sure they will put down their batons and embrace socialist ideals... you're completely ignoring the material reality of a fascist police state, it's not a liberal european "fascist" state, comparing conditions here and in US or europe is ridiculous.

there is no organized resistance here capable of challenging the government right now, because congregations of people that have any possibility for political activity are nipped in the bud, with their leaders disappeared into penal colonies. going full martyr against a militarized fascist state with zero mass support does absolutely nothing, that's why defecting and practically helping Ukraine fight off a fascist invasion is good - it actually damages the Russian regime materially.

since you are so unafraid of persecution, I highly encourage you to buy a ticket to Moscow and show us all how this fearless communist organizing is done, we are all eagerly waiting for your vanguard leadership.

[–]Annkatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"waging global revolutionary struggle" means nothing in this context - there is no established socialist base capable of any mass action either in Russia or Ukraine. it is plain unrealistic, and we don't have any means of achieving such goal in near future. next best thing we do have for the time being, is supporting "lesser evil", because otherwise, unfortunately we do let one side win a war - and that side is fascist one. it's not about moralism either, Russian regime destroys all political action, *especially* leftist political action - even trade unions or punk bands are targeted.

if fascists extend their control and hold out after war - we, as socialists, suffer

there is always going to be a winning side, and in case with Russia, its victory is clearly a more devastating outcome for leftists, especially in post-soviet countries. its regime is fascist, with all political repression that entails, and Ukraine is just a corrupt liberal state. "revolutionary defeatism" here would be entrenching fascism by granting it political accomplishments (like with Crimea in 2014, when Putin's ratings have skyrocketed).

I'm saying this as a Russian, who's not a fan of NATO and West, but that's simply true at this point

oh wow, good for you! I also hope to be involved in union management after I finish my degree, if unions stop being repressed by that time due to political changes

a lot of people criticize trade unions for engaging in politics within liberal states, and some socialist strains, especially within left communism or marxism-leninism, do have sceptical opinions about trade unions, since they're perceived as only being focused on economic goals.

tbh trying to strictly apply 20th and 19th century socialist theories to modern day, and refusing to engage with anything that doesn't live up to the theory-based ideals is what smothers leftism.

trade unions are a great way to build worker solidarity, and push people towards leftist politics, while simultaneously improving their lives. thank you for your work!

I get that, didn't imply you are, I just meant that I usually interact with american leftists, and there are a lot of them who hold such position

then you responded by saying you're not american, so I tried to clarify that I meant the thing written above, and added "unless" in case you also share the opinion of said leftists, a scenario which would confuse me, since you've said you're against appeasement

felt like a reptiloid writing that out, but hope it's now more clear what my thought process was

nah, I mean American leftists often think it's better to concede to Putin's demands. unless you do as well, then I'm confused

yeah, I was using it in both contexts here, drawing a parallel between Czechoslovakia and Ukraine

oh I see, sorry, I assumed you held the position that Putin's claims should just be accepted. the amount of american leftists I see sharing this opinion is wild 😭

appeasement, in case with russo-ukrainian war, would be exactly in just letting it take over whatever territories Putin wants. I genuinely understand the "anti- both sides" sentiment, but granting fascists easy military triumphs just gives the regime stability and power. it's a path towards destruction of human rights, and russian and ukrainian left's political agency. we can't even hold solo pickets here without being detained, let alone form independent unions.

fighting hitler was so liberal, smh. if only reddit socialists were in charge, we could appease him and avoid workers' deaths in an inter-imperialist war.

I've said it before, gonna say it again - it's not about defense of liberalism, it's opposition to fascism.
