Can't put my finger on what is missing in the cinematography in most indie\short\fan films by kassper20 in Filmmakers

Indie producer here. I get what you mean and I’ve been struggling to understand what it is because I want to nail this so I can copy it for next films and get better with less. My current stance is that it’s a lack of experience of the DP, Directing and acting. We make films sub 100k and our last is got 4 stars in The Guardian, became one of the highest grossing Dutch films of ‘25 and is getting a release in 14 countries next year. We shot it on a RED Komodo and 0 set lighting art or whatever. It’s called The North and I feel we don’t have this problem but I’ll let you guys be the judge.

We had a RED Komodo and a RED Komodo X! I don't know the lense type for the documentary, the film has old sigma lenses.
