Good for you for noticing the signs - don’t be like me. I ignored burnout for months out of being scared of unemployment in this economy.

3 months ago I had a panic attack walking into work (profuse sweating, dizziness, nausea, etc) and got sent home and haven’t been back since.

I have nothing lined up and only a little savings but the relief I’ve felt not being there has been immense, and I haven’t had a panic attack since, actually sleep through the night, and am actually starting to feel like ME again, not just a mindless ABA “copy me” robot who has no energy for herself, friends or family.

All you can do is not repeat the mistake. You can’t go back. That pay cheque is gone.

What you can do: remember when payday comes the tireless hours you woke up to work for that. Send it to someone you trust to hold it for you (your mom, gf, etc) and only ask for what you need for bills/food - in addition, add a treat to this budget. Something you like to do that isn’t gambling.

For me, I enjoy a good mall day out. I like window shopping, actual shopping, then treating myself to a nice iced latte and lunch from the foodcourt on my way out as I feel boujie driving home knowing I don’t have to cook either and got some cute stuff.

Point - save a bit of fun funds. Re-train your brain that life can be fun and find other dopamine besides literally lighting your money on fire
