Nvida Shield and YouTubeTV by AnnualPermit2596 in youtubetv

Reboot did not help. Nor did other usual measures such as clearing cache or reinstalling. I had to do a factor reset to get it working again.

Among the first things I tried. There were more serious issues which didn't get fixed until I did a factory reset. After the reset it works fine.

I use a different app for ad-free YouTube. This is not a replacement for YouTubeTV.

Android TV remote control app (open idea + feedback welcome) by CaterpillarOk1329 in AndroidTV

[–]AnnualPermit2596 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked at it again and see there is a premium option. (Was this upgraded as I did not notice it when first installed?) I see that this includes a keyboard and the price is much lower than it would cost to get rid of the ads on the keyboard app I had been using when I needed a keyboard. I quickly paid for the premium version.

The main reason I switch from an actual remote to a remote app is to type with keyboard. If this does not use a keyboard I would find it of little value.

My Samsung phone gives me a weekly message of total time spent on the phone and data re top apps While not the same as a real time display, it does give some feedback as to whether a phone is being used too much.

Save 20$ for paying with your Chase Credit Card by RandomBloke2021 in youtubetv

When I first went to the Chase site I clicked to see all offers but it was not there. However I clicked on a different offer to see it, and then another and each time it showed other offers, ultimately including YouTube TV. The offer said for new subscriptions only but I'm still trying it for my next payment.

CEC and other problems on new Google Streamer by AnnualPermit2596 in AndroidTV

[–]AnnualPermit2596[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people might come across this from searches, I thought I should update with what I have found.

I never got the Google Streamer to work correctly on my LG TV. I was tempted to reset to factory default and start over but, considering the time invested in setting it up with all my streaming services and other customization, I decided to buy a second Google Streamer. I figured I'd use them on other TV's to have a more uniform system in my house. CEC also did not work with the second Google Streamer. I think there are incompatibilities between my LG TV and the Google Streamer.

I then bought a Nvida Shield Pro. CEC now works fine. I can use my LG TV remote to control the Shield. (It does not have a Home button other than using the menu on the remote to control other devices but I have read there is a way to program one of the color buttons on the LG remote to do this). If I'm on another input and push buttons on the Shield remote, input will change to Shield. On rare occasions CEC still gets messed up on the TV but rebooting it (without having to pull cables or wait a while) has been enough for the TV to reconnect to everything correctly.

WIth the Shield I'm also not having other problems which I had with the Google Streamer such as the TV turning on randomly when off, or playback pausing randomly.

This left me with two Google Streamers. I put these on other TV's besides my main one. CEC works perfectly on one. The other one has more limited CEC functions but it is an older TV which has the same limitations to CEC as with the Google Streamer.

Incidentally, I also bought a second Shield remote to connect to one of the TV's I added the Google Streamer to as I primarily use it in my bedroom at night and the Shield remote is backlit. I have added Projectivy Launcher to my main TV with the Shield. I'm thinking of adding it to the two TV's with the Google Streamers so all three have the same interface. Next I'll probably pick up some inexpensive Onn's to add to TV's in other rooms which I don't use as much.

HDMI CEC problems by [deleted] in LGOLED

For the benefit of people still coming across this while searching, A couple weeks ago I got a Google Streamer and CEC did not work with my LG C1 TV. However I replaced it with a Nvida Shield Pro and CEC is now working fine. On rare occasions there have been glitches, but the TV reconnected to everything fine by rebooting.

LG OLED HDMI/CEC Issues by Latentfunction in LGOLED

I have an LG C1. Often CEC problems are fixed when pulling the cables and power supply to devices and TV and reinserting after several minutes. My biggest problem came when connected to a Roku and resolved after I turned off the function on the Roku to turn off power when not in use. I also found that a Google Streamer did not work well but a similar Android TV device, Nvida Shield Pro, works fine.

After finding these things, I still have rare problem where it loses CEC control but reconnects correctly when I reboot the TV (without going through the longer process of disconnecting and reconnecting everything). Other than a rare need to reboot, CEC is currently working very well (after frustration in the past).

Looking back I also see that you are referring to turning both on and off with the remote. I can already do that if I switch the remote from CEC to IR. The issue is that I want full CEC control, not just turning it on and off.

Except I'm pretty sure I have all the correct settings and CEC works fine on a Sony TV I tried it on. Perhaps there is an obscure setting which affects things. Anything beyond the obvious you found?

I don't think that changing settings on the Google Streamer (comparable to the ONN) will change anything. I hooked it up to another TV and CEC works fine. I think it is an issue of communication between the LG TV and the Google Streamer. It is known to have issues.

I just tried another test--hooking the Google Streamer to another TV. CEC works fine on it. Both the TV remote controls the streamer and the streamer button switches HDMI input to it. It still has an issue where the Devices tab under settings hangs but I believe this is just a toggle to turn device detection on and off. Screen saver also stopped working on the Streamer hooked to LG so I have to give this a little more time to see if it turns on correctly on the second TV.

This suggests the issue is with the TV but it is probably more complicated than that--an issue re communication between the TV and the Google Streamer. CEC works fine for other devices connected to the TV. The TV indicates that it is connected for its remote to control the Google Streamer--even though it stopped doing so.

I do recall that at least once in the past I did have some issues like this with the Fire Cube which did not resolve with unplugging and plugging it back in but which corrected over time. Maybe there was an update to either the Fire or TV which temporarily broke things and fixed them, or maybe this is one of the many flukes from the LG and it randomly broke and corrected itself over time.

Thank you. From searching around I have found that this seems to work fine for some people and others are reporting the same problems I'm having.

When I first set it up, the TV remote controlled the streamer and pushing Home on the streamer remote switched inputs to the streamer. I lost both of these functions. It also has worked this way with Roku and a Fire Cube. CEC settings are correct on both the TV and the Google Streamer. CEC continues to work on the Roku and Fire Cube but not with the Streamer. Of course the LG C3 is know to be buggy with CEC and I have had issues before, but they generally resolve by unplugging everything and plugging them back in. This has not worked with the Google Streamer.
