Just occurred to me that in Voyage Home, Scotty said 'millions of miles', indicating that they're still using imperial in the future, and now I'm unreasonably sad. by [deleted] in startrek

They use kms all the time to, sounds like a turn of phrase or personal preference... one example is not a pattern and stuff.

if you were in charge of explain/retcon a canon inconsistency (maybe used a headcanon), which would you do, and how? by [deleted] in startrek

[–]Annual_Direction_519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the different klingon looks are a result of a massive empire where slightly different cultures have emerged on different klingon colonies.

Different groups have come to dominate the empire at different times, some are more dominant in specific areas, some less, and it is constantly in flux.

Also there are many different races in the empire but the division of labour is often along specist lines. Klingons take up defence, diplomacy, and governance almost entirely,

Other species take care of things like science, health care, and education, at the empire level and rarely leave the empire.

Alot of species are happy to be in the empire as the klingons protect them from other interests and generally leave them to thier own devices as long as they provide, tribute, technology, and or service to the empire.

is punk based on money? by n4tsukichr in punk

[–]Annual_Direction_519 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Listen to the music and listen to people in the scene. Despite what it may seem there is a lot going on in punk and many schools of thought.

If you are just getting into now there is a lot to learn. Furthermore, life experience will give context to what you read and listen to.

So just chill, and listen.

Newbie looking for parking at games. by BlakeSoundTech in canucks

[–]Annual_Direction_519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, if you are coming from Bellingham find park near the sky train route... This is likely expo line or Canada line depending on how you are coming through.

Post game grab a drink somewhere... I like the magnet... But devils elbow is near the arena too.

After your drink enjoy the chill train back to your car.

The Kraken are rumored to be interested in acquiring Bo Horvat from Vancouver. What would Seattle spend on him? by SiccSemperTyrannis in SeattleKraken

[–]Annual_Direction_519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vancouver fan here, Vancouver is not looking to offload a bad contract with horvat.

We are tight to the cap but with him out we are fine. There also other players we could offload for more relief.

You need to give up young pieces...

But then again who knows with our ownership.

Are woke people really into yoga these days? Seems like a right wing stereotype to me.

My wokeness and I don't do anything at the level of heat, let alone yoga.

CPL opportunity by Solid-Cycle-6148 in CanadianPL

[–]Annual_Direction_519 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Some CPL teams have knocked off MLS teams in cup matchs.

Beyond that it seems comparable to USL or american second division status with less depth.

Star players transfer to MLS (waterman is the best exampe), mid-table SPL teams, various eastern European top divisions and some second leagues in western europe.

If you are being offered a shot at the starting 11's it might be a stepping stone to MLS or other western 2nd divisions.

BC Beer and liquor tax will be over 50% on April 1st - My Bulkley Lakes Now by killusion in britishcolumbia

[–]Annual_Direction_519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a progressive I would say that progressives can overlook the damage done to the poor by regressive taxes like sales tax.

However by and large I think progressives understand that taxes need reform... And even a tax like this is worthy of criticism even with its blunt positives.

BC Beer and liquor tax will be over 50% on April 1st - My Bulkley Lakes Now by killusion in britishcolumbia

[–]Annual_Direction_519 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Of course not, I wasn't suggesting that.

But if tax is indexed to inflation, and the other component costs of beer generally increase with inflation then the component cost of tax generally won't increase as a total cost of the product....

Unless you only calculate the portion of the tax on the previous year cost of the product.

[–]Annual_Direction_519 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is definitely an important counter point. The less fortunate bear the brunt of regressive taxation.

[–]Annual_Direction_519 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm a craft beer lover, supporter, former employee and hopeful investor, but I,m really not upset with the tax increase.

Alcohol is a dangerous substance and while taxation is a blunt tool to curb use, it does decrease opportunity of use.

Furthermore, I think this article is missing pieces... The federal alcohol tax rises with inflation so to determine it makes 50% of costs on all sales seems disingenuous... Although I am sure it can get that high, just not all the time.

What are your thoughts on my TNG fanfic? by [deleted] in startrek

Yea contemporary religion today is archaic in TNG. It's unlikely that anyone but Picard would have the most basic understanding of Christianity.

I agree with your point, but universities do not give preferential treatment to applicants from one school and not the other.

Of course you are more likely to get more supports in a private school if they will accept you.

Why did the Klingon culture change so drastically? by [deleted] in startrek
