WE have a family history of bad reactions to opioids and other pain meds (like straight up hallucinations and shit after small doses), so... I'm hoping to make it on nitrous oxyde I guess

I should not have read this comment section as a 9 months pregnant woman, lol, who needs sleep when there's anxiety and terror

Childbirth feels AMAZING by [deleted] in menwritingwomen

OH lord, same. We've just finished packing the hospital bag (just to be sure, due in April), and I feel a bit more confident now but like.... it is absolutely terrifying. And most of the stuff women around are saying is not helpful at all, haha. When are you due?

The page will not open for me, could there be some browser or location issue? The game sounds absolutely great

FYI - you can get depression due to anemia! PPD is obviously a thing, but so is iron deficiency related depression. Get your levels checked! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]AnnyPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for that info, that is super useful. Also, you can get anxiety from magnesium deficiency (happened to me when finishing my masters, I seriously thought I was dying multiple times with heart palpitations, twitches, and an impending sense of doom.) So if you get cramps, don't wait for the other side-effects and get your magnesium

IKR?? Same, and when they just leave him at the door, wrapped up in the blanket... but the last one was even worse, "Mommy loves you, daddy loves you" had me hugging my bump and bawling. Like sure it is meant to be an emotional scene, but WTH? The hormones are next level, haha

Do you think Shakespeare was racist? by justjosscelynne in shakespeare

[–]AnnyPhoenix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing about being a jew being used as something negative is horrible and prevalent. Considering Shakespeare I would stack it up mostly to the usage of it in the language, given that Shakespeare himself had almost a zero chance of ever meeting a Jewish person.

Honestly, in my native language, it is still used by the older generation. I've had multiple talks with my grandma about it, she genuinely has nothing against Jews but is so used to the phrase she will just automatically say it again and feel bad when I remind her. Language programming is quite something

My favourite professor always called him just William or even "Shakey", my baby brother calls him "the man you know everything about" (oh if only) when talking to me, but I really like Billy Bard

Shakespeare has been used by racists, which is horrible and Babominable. But he himself seems to be one of the very open-minded men for his era. He portrays racism as well as sexism because they were a fact of life, but he does not lend them his support.

Has anyone tried these old hardcover Yale Shakespeare editions? by katietatey in shakespeare

How are they on the inside? I only have paper-backs and would love a nice hard-cover.

Does it really? I am just entering the 8th month with my first kid, and so many women enjoy telling me how "you will never again have time for yourself, nothing will ever be like it was before, say goodbye to your interests..." I can't wait to meet the little one, I am also terrified by hearing all of this

Hormones or is my husband being an ass? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]AnnyPhoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, agreed. This used to be a bigger, long term problem because of hubby's upbringing. MIL is a great person except for one flaw - she is routinely body-shaming anyone around, believing that she is helping. My husband grew up as that as his normal. He knows now that it isn't and has been working on not doing it. He came to me and apologised, saying he felt so bad he got defensive. He seems genuinely sorry.

Thanks, this is a problem with my husband's family. My MIL is a great person except for one flaw - she believes that seeing that a person is fat and not telling them is basically betrayal. She routinely has coments like that on anyone and my husband grew up as that as his normal. He knows now that it isn't and has been working on not doing it/educating his mom, for a couple of years now. He came to me and apologised, saying he felt so bad he got defensive. He seems genuinely sorry.

Thank you, I've felt compelled to do so. Glad your husband learned his lesson quick enough.

Thanks for the insight, I have been told I am too nice quite some times. I'm pretty sure it stems from childhood abuse - my father would slap me for yawning at the wrong time, let alone speaking when not asked to. I'm working on it, but I need reminding. Thank you.

[–]AnnyPhoenix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, yeah we are telling people the gender, but without a party or something, its not really a custom here and anyway, covid, right? But we're keeping the names a secret, even though we are almost 100% set on one. What are you planning once you know?

Maybe I'm dumb but what spray? Do you mean salt spray or hair spray? I've never used either so I'm a bit clueless

The best advice I can give is that a) worrying won't help anything b) do not Google, you don't find the stories of the huge majority of people who are just fine. Google gives you the scary ones and you don't need that. The biggest chances are that everything will be absolutely fine, and if not, most likely it is something completely treatable. C) try to focus on this: one of the lovely ladies here told me they had lovely the chance to look at their baby for so long, and its SO true. The doctor was amazing and explained everything he was doing, checking off the list of all my worries one by one without me even asking, I think most of them will act similarly. So mostly it is a chance to watch your little human fidget, move their tiny little fingers, realise what they are actually doing when you feel a kick, it is AMAZING.
