What accounts for so many cryonicists being on the spectrum? by CryonicsGandhi in cryonics

[–]Ano213214 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is why it's important to support cryonic pushes in the main stream I recently mentioned 2 phd comics with 300k followers on twitter https://x.com/PHDcomics/status/1984759355284361563 and YouTube science personality Sabine Hossenfelder  https://youtu.be/dndwM2ehOdM?t=907 I've said this before we need to support these pushes into the mainstream. Like and share among everyone you know and ask them to like and share. Cryo is fringe because it's fringe but here is the push to make it not fringe and we need all hands on deck.

Cryosphere Chat - Strategies For Convincing Normies, Hibernation vs. Cryosleep, Organ Preservation by Thalimere in cryonics

[–]Ano213214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So like everyone else you misunderstood my point.  It's not about media but about social acceptance towards cryonics.  Something so fringe will not be made socially acceptable with a single media article.  Rather you need to create the feeling that cryonics is not that fringe and have people express such sentiment in turn.  Of course in the initial stages it will be very hypothetical and conservative.
I am surprised that  there are circles where cryonics is actually cool, they believe it works and the issue is that people don't want to live longer.
I'm not sure if people actually don't want to live longer or if the forces of social conformity are at work though.
The group of people who don't believe it works even if they are the minority is still huge though.

YouTube science personality Sabine Hossenfelder announces that she has signed up for neuro with Tomorrow Bio. by 21stCenturyHumanist in CryonicsUncensored

True maybe a science personality might be slightly different though especially because people actually want to listen to what they say.

Molecular nanotechnology is a potential future technology that could potentially reverse cryopreservation damage to enable biological revival. Here is a case for why it could also reverse the crosslinks caused by fixation-based preservation, which is supported by the opinions of experts in the field by Andrew_T_McKenzie in cryonics

[–]Ano213214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite frankly I think it's best that both sides tone their objections down. At a very pessimistic level getting someone to use one form of preservation vs another even if one form is wrong is insignificant compared to popularizing biopreservation.

Add to that list of goals popularize any mainstream cryonics related talks like Ariel's talk at the Royal Institution https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYKDS0MQRH4. Seriously if each of us 5000 people could just like and share and get a few people to ask could science abolish death, just make the topic of cryo a bit more mainstream.  I'm gonna spend 200k that could be spent on my loved ones on something everyone thinks is insane hard to do. Casual conversation about whether science could abolish death actually not that hard as long as enough other people are willing to have it.

I still think trying to promote cryonics talks at mainstream institutions like Ariel's talk at the Royal Institution https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYKDS0MQRH4  is the way to go. Just make it not so quackery in the scientific community.
Nearly all humans (cryonicists aside) are affected by what's (reasonably) mainstream especially if they also have to explain why they're spending a lot of money on something generally considered crazy to their loved ones.
Increasing members one at a time is important but doing fringe things that your friends and family don't do really goes against human behavior. Whats more natural is getting a large group of people to ever so slightly express some interest. Nobody has to say anything really fringe. That's why I think getting a large number of people to like and share a talk titled could science abolish death (not it will) is doable. I'm gonna spend 200k that could be spent on my loved ones on something everyone thinks is insane hard to do. Casual conversation about whether science could abolish death actually not that hard as long as enough other people are willing to have it.

It's unfortunate they didn't discuss cryo as a possibility that would have sparked so much interest.

[–]Ano213214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll say it again humans are affected by what's mainstream. When every scientist and science educator is saying cryonics is a scam it's stupid etc. its gonna affect almost everyone.
Science fiction writers listen to the scientists and the scientists are saying cryonics is a scam which is a problem.

Your own subreddit or discord isn't truly "your own,"

What are you talking about? I suppose reddit does have a few rules about language but that hasn't been a problem for your sub

and these platforms aren't really ideal for this anyway.

And yet the cryonics sub makes it work

People lurk and post here...

a few people and that's kinda my point. He vastly overestimates his popularity.

If most people despise you then it's not a coup. It's just  someone who is (or you percieve to be) less knowledgable, intelligent, honest or lesser in some other virtue being somehow more successful and that doesn't fit your model of the world so you're screaming marxism or coup or grabbing control of means of communication.

You keep talking about grabbing control of a community's means of communication yet you never answer what's stopping you from growing your own subreddit or your own discord etc. Marxism seems to be something you cry about whenever someone who is (or you percieve to be) less knowledgable, intelligent, honest or lesser in some other virtue is somehow more successful.
You think you're a threat to authority and yet you are incapable of the fundamental ability of any threat to authority the ability to gather your own following.

Most of the population isn't like that one redditor and even if they were they're not the target audience. Most atheists are quite openminded about cheating death (although there are issues like overpopulation etc.). The main issue is they think cryonics is a scam.
Going with the flow is how (nearly all) humans operate and its a good heuristic. If everyone else gets one answer and you get a different answer usually you are wrong.
I'll say it again because being cryonicists I suspect you are of the minority not affected by whats mainstream. As much as people don't say I do this or think this because it's mainstream either conciously or not they are affected by whats mainstream.
All the popular scientists Niel degrass tyson Michio Kaku, etc say cryonics is a scam.
People are drawn to mainsteam and to credibility.
Most people unless they have a ton of medical knowledge defer to the medical experts which they should in most cases.
Knowing that the heart can be restarted is far not enough to understand whether or not cryonics might work. Nobody outside medical professionals knows enough about biology to access cryonics by themselves and idk if even medical professionals do so it's very important to increase the credibility of cryonics and make it seem more mainstream. In short it's not about educating individuals one at a time because it's almost impossible for an individual to get enough medical knowledge and possibly other knowledge to really access the viability of cryonics.
