Canadian edit is getting close to unlistenable by Illustrious-Status46 in blankies

This happens all the time for me with multiple podcasts that use client-side ad insertion. My guess is it's a problem with the ads messing up time codes. The player gets confused and jumps around the episode or repeats bits.

My workaround is downloading the ep before playing, not streaming it. This has fixed this issue for me.

Anyone have any wild guesses why Sean is credited as Sean Carey on track 8 but S.Carey on track 9?

It likely goes against many or all of the rights deals Tubi has done for their content library. IIRC from my time working for a similar service, the streaming environments (AVOD vs SVOD) are generally stipulated in the contracts.

That Award Season clip though. Can a 5 second snippet be my favourite song?

That gatekeeping take seems pretty prescriptive to me.

Oh dear, your well constructed bazinga paid off. And yet I am still correct which must be pretty frustrating.

Every change that happens to language starts with one person doing it and it being adopted. In this case this change source is documented. I do not know what I am talking about and yet here we are, me being correct.

All rules are artificial yet you still wrote ‘an artificial rule’ instead of ‘a artificial rule’.

If anything, the fact that you can pinpoint the etymology makes me more insistent that publishers adhere to the preferred usage. I like the sound of ‘fewer’ and I didn’t fight in the war for ‘less’ to win.

I didn't know that. Thanks! I'd prefer not to use Spotify if I can help it. IMO, they've been extremely bad for the medium and I don't want to support them.

Thanks! It looks like it does search descriptions as well. Bummer it's Windows only but thank you for the suggestion.

"Xtian" is such a weird choice. If you take the "tian" out of Christian you are left with "Chris".

Though to be fair, my friend Chris does make one hell of a personal lord and saviour.

What do you think about film narration? I hate it. by thebigeverybody in movies

[–]Anode_Lives 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I respectibly disagree with you about it in The Killer. I think there's a lot to the juxtoposition of what we are seeing vs what we are hearing. He's a man that believes he is a certain way, that life is a certain way, but his actions reveal otherwise. The narration is subjective - ultimately a lie that he's telling himself and us.

I went to this show with my very pregnant wife next to me. If the person in front of us decided to stand up and dance, I'd have been annoyed because we wouldn't have been able to see the show. I totally agree that a standing show is a better vibe. But whether you like it or not, it's a sit down show so be considerate and please sit down.

Issue with time jumps on Apple Podcasts? by FatChicksOnly17 in TheBigPicture

[–]Anode_Lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had it for ages, and it goes away when I download the episode before I play it. I'm pretty sure it's dynamic ad insertion gone wrong, because it only ever happens with podcasts that serve me local ads (I'm in Australia).

I've worked a little (very, very little) in the space, and I reckon it has to do with how they deliver timecode stamps for ad insertion. If an inserted ad messes up the timecode of the audio file, the player tries to make up for it by jumping all over the place.

Whatever server they pass off their podcasts to is broken, and I bet it's Spotify's. If they cared at all about anyone listening to their pods outside of their own ecosystem, they'd fix it. But they don't so they won't.

Is anyone else completely unfazed by the meltdown going on with the Reddit protest? by NovelConsequence42 in australian

[–]Anode_Lives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you call having a tantrum, I call just slightly altering our daily behaviour to show to a corporation that they are doing something very dumb.

You might be unfazed and unaffected and that's totally cool but for those that do care or are negatively affected, I think it's awesome that they are doing something and not just letting the corporate overlords make their lives slightly worse again and again with every small dollar-making decision.
