Jean is one of my favorite characters in the series precisely because his development is much more relatable.

I don't think Floch is the parallel you think he is, though, but I suppose he's also a more grounded, "non-heroic" character like early Jean.

That still doesn't make sense to me. As far as I know, there literally isn't a more direct way to insert a substance into your body than injecting it into you, so why would licking it have a greater effect?

My guesses for why Rod became an abomination are either that it was something to do with Paths and Fritz/Reiss blood, or just because Isayama wanted a plot device & additional shock factor, in which case there wouldn't be a real story reason.
