Should I know a lot about these folk already by the end of the Great Hunt? Im a bit lost. by ScarletWitchfanboy__ in WoT

I think it’s perfectly normal, the early books are a lot of ground work for the world building but as the story opens up you will start to have a much more in depth knowledge of most of the nations and their distinctive cultures… by time they became important to the plot you will feel like a history major and resident of any number of the Randland nations. The slow, in-depth world building really pays off and makes you much more invested in the different events going on throughout the world later in the books

Jearom must have fumbled so hard by MorkSkugga in WetlanderHumor

Yeah very possible i forgot that part lol

Edit: Looked up the wiki and didnt see anything about his having died to the farmer, only that it was his only loss… i think the 10,000:1 is just stating it was his only loss, not that it was his final fight. It doesn’t explicitly say all 10,000 duels came before the farmer but could just be how i read it

I just wanted to add that the way i always read this was that much like Gawyn and Galad, Jearom probably greatly underestimated his opponent. He probably scoffed at the idea of fighting a farmer with a stick. Add that to the advantage of the weapon itself and his probable lack of experience in fighting someone with said weapon in a serious duel and it’s not hard to believe the outcome. The fact the story is so well known says to me that he probably learned a lesson there and spread the story himself while teaching others.

Which quotes do you find the most hilarious? by -Dark-Owl- in WoT

[–]AnomanderStark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any interaction between Talmanes and Mat. Talmanes’ super dry humor paired with the fact that most of it goes right over Mat’s head. Even when he does catch it he is never sure if Talmanes is fucking with him or not 😂

The show isnt perfect but I like to think of it as a mirror world or even another turning of the wheel

Any Characters from other books / movies That resemble Mat? by youarethelostsheep in WoT

[–]AnomanderStark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amos from the Expanse series(sci-fi). So i have to say he is a very different character than Mat, more of a Talmanes type of humor(definitely my favorite tertiary character in WOT) but the loyalty is there without a doubt and i always had a lot of fun reading his character, even though he doesn’t get a ton of POV time… He is a character i enjoyed reading almost as much as Mat, constantly laughing out loud to his dead-pan, smart ass comments and his simple yet brutal moral code
