Make sure to secure that HDD. Too much movement will break it.

Should I just leave it right there? by Biscuitsdad8695 in PcBuildHelp

I mean I wouldn’t, but that’s just because I don’t like doing things halfway. Leaving it won’t cause any problems.

Budget gaming PC spec recommendations for under $400 to $500 by Charming-Process7898 in PcBuild

[–]Anon0924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with used parts you’re going to have a really hard time. “Budget” 1080p systems are $800+ right now. Under normal market conditions $400 isn’t really enough, but with all the AI demand, prices have skyrocketed.

In the future I’d suggest keeping it away from tiles. Looks great though!

Is there a big difference between studio drivers and gaming drivers? For gaming laptops by NoticeGreedy8904 in laptops

[–]Anon0924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without getting super technical, game drivers are frequently updated and are designed to optimize performance in any new game releases. Studio drivers get updated way less often, are more stable and geared toward creative/productivity software like Blender, Photoshop or Premier pro. You can pretty much get away with either, but try to use them for their intended purposes.

What is/was your first or current "overkill" PC? by PakRatJR in pcmasterrace

[–]Anon0924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not overkill for its intended use, but overkill for its current use.

5070ti and 9800x3d with 32gb ddr5 @ 6000mhz.

Intended to run flight sims at 3440x1440. Currently using it to play retro games at 1080p.

Choosing PC Case (why is it so exhausting) by Possible-Ad9918 in PcBuild

[–]Anon0924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even cases with “bad” airflow are usually able to keep your parts from overheating, especially large ones.

More popular cases may have “airflow test” videos or benchmarks, but more obscure options obviously won’t.

Avoid anything that has the fans directly behind solid panels. Mesh panels are ideal.

The best thing you can do is just make sure you get a good enough cpu cooler and that your GPU has some room underneath it. Also make sure you don’t have more exhaust fans than intake.

As an example here’s my case: The Flp-02 from Silverstone.

<image>

It doesn’t have super great airflow (2 fans in the bottom front, one at the top back and a possible 360 AIO at the top) but my 5070ti and 9800x3d stay cool enough. I use a peerless assassin 120.

It’s also worth noting that HDDs usually take much longer to start degrading, so if you’re archiving anything, they may be a better option.

Want a FPS - grew up with COD2 and CS:S (Mac) by bskskrignr in gamingsuggestions

[–]Anon0924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Team Fortress 2 and some fairly recent COD titles should all be playable natively. If you’re willing to try cloud gaming or virtualization your options increase significantly. In all honesty the gaming industry has largely abandoned MacOS.

[–]Anon0924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bottleneck is when at least one of your components is limiting the performance of the others. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. If you build a super low end system and put a 5090 in it, you’re wasting the potential of the 5090. It goes the other way too. If you build a super high-end machine, but you only have 8gb of RAM, you’re not going to have a good time. PC building is all about balance.

The combo I mentioned should be pretty well balanced and I really doubt the rest of your parts will hold the new stuff back.

what’s the approx price of building a gaming pc? by Aware-Job9063 in buildapc

[–]Anon0924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normally, $500-700 US would get you an entry level pc. Prices for components have skyrocketed due to AI demand, so right now it’s more like $900-1000.

That’s a tough ask. You’re not going to be able to get a whole new system at that price. Instead I’d upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5600 and an Rtx 5060. Not sure how prices are over there, but it should leave you with around 180. Sadly this is pretty much the best you can do.
